What you'll be doing The Deputy Forward Planning Manager has a crucial role in the TV Weeklies’ two-person Forward Planning team within our wider TV Content Creation department. Reporting in to the Forward Planning Manager, you’ll provide a first-class information service to the three TV Weeklies — TV Times, What’s On TV, TV & Satellite Week — plus whattowatch.com. Reporting to the Forward Planning Manager, your main responsibilities include researching and providing forward planning information, with your main focus on all the major soaps, plus helping the Forward Planning Manager access advanced information from the terrestrial channels, satellite, and streaming services. You should keep the TV Team aware of all major developments in the soaps and any TV schedule changes. Excellent communication, writing and interviewing skills are essential as the job requires you to acquire and maintain a contacts list that includes schedulers, press officers, and publicists. You will also write web features, carry out soap interviews, and input information into our planning system. You’ll liaise with the Forward Planning Manager and editorial teams, leading soap planning meetings for TV Times and What’s On TV supporting the Forward Planning manager, and covering their role when they are absent. You’ll attend soap junkets around the country plus many of the forward-planning showcase events held by the major channels and streaming services. You'll have experience working in a TV media environment, on a national TV magazine, supplement, or website, or have worked in publicity at a main TV channel or within a publicity agency specialising in TV shows. Experience that will put you ahead of the curve… Must be enthusiastic and have an interest in all genres of television shows and production. Be a big fan of all the main soaps and watch them regularly. Have a contacts list for the publicity teams behind each of the major soaps and at the main channels and streaming services. Proven ability in communication, writing and computer skills. Willingness to improve web-writing skills to provide web stories for whattowatch.com.
