Point-of-Care Testing (PoCT) is analytical testing that is performed near or at the site of a patient with the result leading to possible change in the treatment of the patient. Medway NHS Foundation Trust’s Diagnostic and Therapies Care Group is responsible for the service.
This will include specific responsibilities for maintaining specialised PoCT equipment, troubleshooting, reagent management, documentation, performance of internal quality control, administration of external quality assessment programmes, delivering and organising training, audits and supporting service users and adherence to the appropriate infection control policies.
To work in a bespoke rapid testing facility, located in our busy Emergency Department. To perform a variety of rapid molecular-based tests which assist clinicians to correctly cohort patients and improve patient flow.

To perform rapid molecular-based testing including respiratory virus testing using SAMBA instruments and biological safety cabinet. To follow laboratory standard operating procedures.
Participate in a 24/7 shift pattern to perform molecular testing using rapid testing platforms.
Document and communicate patient results both via telephone and electronically using the Pathology Laboratory Information System (LIMS) and EPR Sunrise.
Use knowledge and skills to troubleshoot equipment and minimise service downtime.
To undertake general housekeeping as specified in the SOPs including environmental monitoring, temperature monitoring and batch acceptance testing.
To be involved in the verification of new equipment and support the PoCT team.
