Design Engineer– Asset Intelligence
Warrington
What you will be doing:
An opportunity has arisen for a Fire Design Engineer to join the team at Galliford Try within our Asset Intelligence Business.
Ideally, you will based in or around the Warrington area and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region.
Reporting to the Head of Design, you will be responsible for the following tasks:
1. To lead site visits with the assistance of the Head of Design (or member of the design team) and act as the point of contact for any sub-contract designers.
2. To develop the solution scoping technical specifications following site visits/D scans.
3. To liaise closely with the sub-contractor design teams to refine the scope of works.
4. To check the sub-contractor’s price and specifications for completeness, quality, accuracy, and cost effectiveness.
5. To complete Tender TQs and to own the Tender TQ register during this period.
6. To assist the project / tendering teams in producing technical documentation for tender enquiries or orders.
7. To ensure that the design processes and procedures are followed within the office and on site.
8. To assist with documentation for fire accreditation for the GT AI Business.
9. Ascertaining Clients’ requirements through reference to their specification documents and visiting sites with their nominated personnel. A key requirement is the ability to determine the actual design requirement and propose appropriate solutions.
10. Working alongside the Head of Design and AI delivery staff to ensure designs are value engineered and adhere to client specifications whilst retaining appropriate levels of operational requirements and full compliance with all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
11. Promoting innovation and challenge parties involved to ensure cost effectiveness in all design activities.
12. To provide technical input into the Fire Installer / supplier subcontract orders.
13. The production of design documentation such as Detector Layouts, Zone Drawings, Cause & Effects, Loop Layouts, Loop Schematics, Fire Stopping Details, Panel Layouts, Battery Calculations, Fire Strategies, etc.
14. To feed information into Design Management Plan, Design Programme, and other design quality deliverables.
15. To review, check and approve Design Deliverables are technically correct and produced in line with the design programme.
16. To feed information to the Head of Design on possible CE’s and EWs relating to design changes or additional works.
17. To ensure that there is no scope creep, and to manage design changes through the Change Control Process.
18. To assist with the effective handover to the Construction Manager and Commissioning Manager
About You:
19. Experience and knowledge of integrated fire systems including, Detection, Suppression, Fire Stopping, Networking and Risk Assessment.
20. Experience of system integration and management systems.
21. Experience with AMTECH for system power design.
22. Sound knowledge of fire equipment and devices.
23. BIM / PAS
24. Experience of producing URS and FDS documents (where applicable) to client briefs and specifications.
25. Knowledge of CDM regulations and temporary works requirements.
26. Possess an industry applicable ONC/HNC/ or NVQ equivalent.
27. Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft packages (experience with AutoCAD software would be an advantage).
