AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
Our Region Services team redefines the way AWS designs, builds, and operates AWS regions to enable new AWS Cloud Infrastructure and Services offerings to customers across every industry and of every size, including start-ups, enterprises, and public sector organizations. We are actively seeking experienced Software Development Engineers with a strong background in system design.
Must hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance (see here).
Key job responsibilities
1. Design and build reusable, maintainable, and performant software consistent with Amazon standard technologies.
2. Develop best in class software systems for automating Amazon's network.
3. Provide technical direction to the team and identify areas of focus.
4. Must be able to independently design code and test major features, as well as work jointly with other team members to deliver complex changes.
5. Deal with ambiguity, make data-driven decisions and juggle cross-organization complexity.
6. Create and review documentation and process regarding recurring issues, new standard operating procedures and product documentation.
7. Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to troubleshoot high severity issues.
About the team
Region Services provides the highest caliber Operational Solutions and Cleared Support for services within our Regions. We provide 'hands on keyboard' support to our service teams by deploying changes into these isolated regions, monitoring the results, and reporting any issues that are observed.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
2. 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
3. Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
2. Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
