Board Member Appointment: Appointment of Members of the Board of Highland and Islands Enterprise
The appointments are for three years and take effect from April 2024
Scottish Ministers are looking to appoint up to two new Members of the Board of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).

Highlands and Islands Enterprise
HIE is an ambitious organisation with a vital role in supporting businesses and communities across the Highlands and Islands to build a greener, fairer, and more resilient region that benefits everyone and makes a strong contribution to Scotland. Responsible for setting strategic direction, key decision making and effective governance, the Board membership encompasses a range of skills, knowledge and experience that reflect the diversity of the region and the breadth of HIE’s remit. The Board comes from a range of backgrounds but have at least two things in common: passion for this part of Scotland and a commitment to make a positive difference to the wellbeing and prosperity of all those who live there.

Remuneration and time commitment
Remuneration is £419.00 per day for a time commitment of two days per month. The time commitment is currently under review and may increase slightly. Reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed. The appointments are non-pensionable.
Skills/Experience Required
Skills and Experience
It is the aim of Scottish Ministers to appoint two candidates who have a very close affinity and understanding of the issues impacting on the Highlands and Islands and of the opportunities to support economic and community development across the region. One of the two appointees must live, work, study or invest in the Highlands and Islands. There is a strong preference that the second candidate also lives, works, studies or invests in the Highlands and Islands although it is not a specific requirement. For that role, the successful candidate must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the economic, cultural and fiscal issues impacting on the Highlands and Islands. Priority Criteria
Applicants are expected to demonstrate evidence of at least one of the priority criteria. You can provide evidence of more than one criterion:
1. knowledge of, and experience in, areas of natural capital;
2. knowledge of, and experience in, energy;
3. knowledge of, and experience in, property.
Essential Criteria
Applicants are also expected to demonstrate evidence of all of the following:
4. knowledge and understanding of the economic, cultural and fiscal issues impacting on the Highlands and Islands;
5. knowledge and experience of strategy and long-term planning;
6. communicating, influencing, collaborating and working in partnership;
7. analysing and scrutinising performance and delivery.
Desirable Criteria
Although not essential, it would be desirable if applicants demonstrated the following:
8. knowledge of the wider context in which HIE operates:
9. net zero/green recovery;
10. Fair Work;
11. Gaelic;
12. understanding of the housing agenda in the context of economic growth;
13. ensuring the benefits of place based inclusive growth across the entire region.
