Environmental Advisor - Construction
We are seeking an Environmental Advisor to join our Construction team, based in Northern England and Scotland. This is a permanent, full-time position, with flexible options including part-time work.
Responsibilities
The role involves supporting environmental aspects of projects in the North & Scotland region to achieve sustainability outcomes for our clients during preconstruction and construction phases. You will help deliver Kier’s Building for a Sustainable World framework, ensure environmental compliance, and support operational teams and subcontractors in integrating environmental best practices and innovations into projects. Additionally, you will deliver training as needed and work towards sustainability targets such as BREEAM, LEED, WELL, carbon reduction, and waste management.
This project-based role requires a good understanding of sustainability principles and experience in delivering environmental assessments like BREEAM and achieving carbon targets.
Key Duties
* Support pre-construction documentation and processes to meet sustainability objectives.
* Conduct environmental inspections and audits using Novade.
* Report incidents, analyze data, and develop learning outcomes.
* Prepare sustainability metrics to track progress against project goals.
* Develop case studies and best practices for internal and bid team use.
* Facilitate meetings to promote the sustainability agenda within project teams and supply chains.
Candidate Profile
Essential Skills
* Passion for sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
* Experience in an Environmental or related role.
* Knowledge of construction sustainability schemes such as BREEAM, LEED, WELL.
* Ability to set, monitor, and communicate environmental KPIs.
* Experience with ISO 14001 documentation and procedures.
* Understanding of environmental legislation and planning laws.
* Data analysis, reporting, and critical thinking skills.
* Effective communication with cross-disciplinary teams, clients, and external bodies.
* Strong time management skills and ability to work independently and within a team.
* Willingness to learn, challenge existing processes, and develop innovative solutions.
* Promotion of health, safety, and wellbeing culture.
* Knowledge of environmental management systems.
* UK Driving License and ability to travel regularly to sites.
* Security clearance (BPSS and SC) or ability to obtain it.
* Degree in environmental or scientific discipline preferred.
* ISO 14001 internal auditor experience and IEMA membership or equivalent are advantageous.
