About Us
Safran Electrical & Power are one of the world leaders in the design, development and manufacture of aircraft electrical systems. We recognise that aviation needs to innovate and change in order to protect our environment. We believe that future aircraft power systems will be hybrid-electric or full-electric, which is why we are working to develop and deliver advanced electrical solutions to help decarbonise flight.
Complementary Description
1. 8-12 weeks summer internship working across the Electro-Magnetic, Mechanical, Multi-Physics and Verification and Validation.
2. Embed in the engineering project team to get involved in the Electro-Magnetic design, mechanical design, multi-physics analysis, and/or validation and verification activities (dependant on the candidate's discipline of study at university).
3. Work with Electro-Magnetic design specialist to learn the Electro-Magnetic design process which includes:
1. Electrical machine theory
2. Design an electric motor from a given specification using MotorCAD tool
3. Relate the theory to the practice by visiting the motors assembly line to attend the different manufacturing steps (stator assembly, encapsulation, General Assembly mounting, Product Acceptance Testing)
4. Work with Lead Engineer and Designer(s) to develop component and assembly designs for Generators/Motors. Generate high-fidelity, robust 3D CAD models with further opportunities to create manufacturing drawings.
5. Work with Verification & Validation and Test engineer(s) to develop test plans, fixtures, and methods, including work with environmental and functional test rigs, such as vibration rigs, altitude/climate chambers.
6. Work with the multi-physics analysis specialist to build and run computer simulations (CFD, FEA, and system modelling tools such as MATLAB).
7. Exposure to work within AS9100 aerospace quality system for engineering and manufacturing.
Job Requirements
We are huge advocates of early employee development, and are keen to help you grow and develop throughout your internship. If the following applies to you, we'd love to hear from you:
1. You have a strong interest in the aerospace industry.
2. You will be in your penultimate year of university, studying a bachelor's or master's degree in electro-mechanical engineering or mechatronics.
3. You have an aptitude for hands-on activities, as well as being analytical and theoretical.
4. You are highly ambitious, and want to both shape and make a difference to the future of how we fly.
5. Eager to learn in a highly dynamic environment.
6. Desire to gain work experience within an engineering setting.
7. You are inquisitive, innovative, and are willing to challenge the status quo and explore new ideas.
