Mill Road Surgery Cambridge is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Practice Nurse to join our friendly team. We are a high-achieving and busy GP training practice, working over two sites.
Working within a nursing team to provide excellent and safe patient care.
The applicant must be a qualified nurse. Experience in a primary care setting is preferable but not essential. They must be able to work in a changing environment.
Main duties of the job
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Cervical cytology
2. Wound care and ulcer care
3. Removal of sutures
4. Urinalysis
5. ECGs
6. Asthma/Peak Flow Readings/Spirometry
7. Venepuncture
8. Chaperoning
9. Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
10. Requesting pathology tests, for example, urine culture and swabs
11. NHS Health Checks
12. Potential extended hours, e.g., Flu Clinics
13. Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent, or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
14. Deliver opportunistic health promotion
15. Provide information and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication, on medication regimens
16. Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy living and encourage principles of self-care
17. Assess and care for patients presenting with uncomplicated wounds
18. Support and advise women requesting information
19. Support and manage health needs of women presenting for cervical cytology consultations
20. Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children
21. Promote and deliver evidence-based care for patients
22. Undertake home visits if required

Working within a nursing team to provide excellent and safe patient care. Will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing on supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring long-term conditions, health prevention, and screening activities. Will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.
