GSL Education are currently seeking a Specialist Secondary Teaching and Learning Assistant for a well-established school in Chesterfield. Role Overview:
As a Specialist Secondary Teaching and Learning Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to work closely with the class teacher to support students in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will provide assistance in differentiated lesson delivery, particularly to students with special educational needs (SEN), helping them access the curriculum effectively. This role is pivotal in fostering a positive learning environment where all students, including those with additional learning needs, can make progress.
Specialist Secondary Teaching and Learning Assistant Key Responsibilities:
* Support the class teacher in planning, preparing and delivering differentiated lessons that meet the specific needs of individual students.
* Provide targeted support to students with SEN, both individually and in small groups, helping them fully engage with the curriculum.
* Assist students in developing key academic skills, including literacy, numeracy and organisational abilities.
* Encourage active student participation, ensuring an inclusive learning environment where all students are motivated to achieve.
* Assist with classroom behaviour management, promoting positive behaviours and de-escalating challenging situations in line with the school's policies.
* Offer support to students in their emotional and social development, ensuring they are supported both academically and personally.
* Help in the preparation of resources and materials to facilitate effective learning.
* Monitor and track student progress, providing regular feedback to the teacher and assisting in assessments and reviews.
* Collaborate with the wider school team, including SENCOs, teachers and parents, to ensure the holistic development of the students.
Specialist Secondary Teaching and Learning Assistant Requirements:
* Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, particularly in a secondary school setting.
* A strong understanding of SEN, including working with students who have Autism, ADHD and other learning challenges.
* Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with students, teachers and parents.
* A proactive and positive approach to supporting students in overcoming academic and personal challenges.
* The ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and flexibility.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
