Grade: Grade E SCP 8-11 (£25,992 - £27,269 per annum, pro rata)
Hours: 35 hours per week, Permanent, TTO + 1 week (39 weeks per year)
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School is a one-form entry primary school in Whickham, Gateshead serving the communities of St Mary’s, Whickham and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Lobley Hill. We are keen to appoint a committed, highly motivated and effective Level 3 Teaching Assistant to support, nurture and inspire our pupils to achieve their full potential as outlined in our Mission Statement. The successful applicant would work mainly in Key Stage 1 to support pupils with an EHCP as well as those with identified additional needs.
Responsibilities:
1. Support the development, care and education of all children under the direction of the Class Teacher and/or SENDCo, specifically working with those children with an EHCP or identified additional needs;
2. Provide effective support for teaching and learning that enables children to progress as part of a small group or 1:1;
3. Assist the class teacher/SENDCo with the planning, development and delivery of suitable programmes of work for the pupils;
4. Liaise with and support the class teacher and/or SENDCo to design and adjust lesson planning, materials and resources to meet individual pupil needs and responses to promote learning outcomes;
5. Work with the class teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment for all pupils;
6. Monitor and evaluate pupils’ responses to learning activities in line with expectations;
7. Contribute to recording pupil progress, maintaining records and providing relevant feedback where appropriate;
8. Contribute towards EHCP targets and pupil reports as required;
9. Liaise with outside agencies where appropriate;
10. Supervise pupils during breaktimes and lunchtimes;
11. Work as a link between home and school;
12. Meet the personal care needs of individual children where required which can include some manual handling;
13. Administer First Aid (depending on training) when necessary.
Minimum Requirements:
1. A commitment to safeguard the welfare of children;
2. Good numeracy/literacy skills;
3. NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants, equivalent qualification (NNEB);
4. Training in relevant learning strategies;
5. Knowledge of the effective use of ICT to support learning – computer, video, photocopier and basic clerical skills;
6. Good understanding of the principles of child development and learning processes;
7. Knowledge of national/foundation stage curriculum and other basic learning programmes/strategies;
8. Experience working with children with general and specific learning difficulties;
9. Ability to deal with challenging situations calmly and confidently;
10. Effective and clear communication.
