Controls Engineer – Permanent Stockport | £55,000 – £65,000 A leading engineering business in Stockport is looking for a Controls Engineer to take ownership of delivering control system projects across a range of medium-to-heavy engineering applications. This is a permanent opportunity offering genuine scope to influence technical direction and drive improvements in both system performance and internal engineering capability. The role will involve: Designing control systems in collaboration with mechanical and controls engineers Checking and approving engineering drawings Writing technical documentation such as specifications, reports, and manuals Developing and testing hydraulic hardware Creating test plans and interpreting customer specifications Supporting sales bids, production teams, and field engineering activities Representing the business in customer and supplier meetings We're looking for someone who has: A degree in a relevant engineering discipline Proven experience designing and developing control systems Background in medium to heavy engineering Experience leading full design cycles—from concept to production Strong 3D CAD skills and excellent general IT knowledge A solid understanding of hydraulic and PLC control system integration Experience producing user and maintenance documentation A proactive mindset, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work well within a team A full UK driving licence People management experience is also desirable, but not essential.
