Job Description – Duty Manager About The Vic The Vic, formerly known as “The Art School”, is undergoing a reopening at the start of 2025, hoping to regain its rightful place as part of Glasgow’s cultural fabric by creating a space for creative performance, live music, markets and club nights. The site itself is based just off Sauchiehall Street in the Glasgow City Centre & operates a bar/café and performance venue. Its primary focus is as a members club serving the GSA’s student base, creating a high calibre of student experience through a diverse program of club nights, creative performances and community-centred events. As an organisation we are partnering with the GSASA (Glasgow School of Art Students Association), where our team's extensive knowledge and experience will support with the management of the Vic. Purpose The Purpose of the Duty Manager position is to manage with solution focused thinking to drive forward the team and create an environment of staff ownership over the venue. The right candidate will be supported by the Venue Operations Manager to develop their leadership abilities and commercial acumen all while being surrounded by a supportive team with regular performance reviews. Reporting directly to the Venue Operations Manager you will be expected to run the venues to ensure an appealing customer journey, increasing efficiencies and training and developing the staff team. Key Duties & Responsibilities Managing service standards and staff development, monitoring development needs, and required training. Helping your line manager to monitor and control the profit and loss, grow the business, and develop the team. Organise and adjust staff rota’s and schedules in accordance with available resources and working time regulations and submit payroll information to the finance department. Implement improvements for products and service. Maintain regular communication with staff and management through meetings and discussions. Stay current with relevant legislation regarding service of alcohol and licensing. To undertake an operational role in all areas of the department, be visible and accessible to customers and staff. To have a good interest and knowledge of the overall bar's operation including cocktail mixology, coffee barista standards and drinks presentation. To be involved in team ideas for promotions, menus, and new products within the department. Experienced Supervisor looking to develop and/or Current Duty Manager Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience Minimum of 1 year within supervisory role Good knowledge of drinks market, barista experience desirable Good customer service & communication skills Good leadership and team management skills Good knowledge in POS systems & Microsoft Office Suite PLH desirable Work Hours The post is full-time, 40 hours per week with the hours worked each week varied in line with organisational requirements. Salary The role is remunerated at £27,456.00 per annum and is a Grade 3 role. No additional payments or allowances and no contractual entitlement to overtime.
