Our school is a supportive and nurturing community dedicated to empowering young people from ages 6 to 18 who are managing mental health challenges, SEMH needs, and additional educational needs. Situated on beautiful, spacious grounds, our school provides an ideal setting for students and staff alike to learn and flourish.
Position: SEMH & SEN Teaching Assistant
* Working Hours: Monday 08:30-17:00, Tuesday-Friday 08:30-16:00, term time only
* Salary: £127 per day, temp to perm.
* Driver essential as in a rural area
What You'll Do:
* Work closely with our experienced team to offer essential support to students with mental health challenges, SEMH needs, and SEN.
* Apply behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive, structured classroom environment.
* Foster an atmosphere that supports emotional well-being, personal growth, and academic progress.
* Provide one-on-one and group support during lessons, activities, and interventions.
* Collaborate with teachers, counsellors, and therapists to create a holistic support system for our students.
* Help create a calm and organized classroom environment where every student feels safe and supported.
Who We’re Looking For:
We value the right mindset and transferable skills above all else. Although formal Mental Health qualifications are not required, these qualities will help you succeed:
* Experience working with young people, especially those facing mental health challenges, SEMH needs, or SEN.
* A background in, or interest in, psychology, counselling, or therapy is a bonus, but a genuine passion for supporting young people is most important.
* Empathy, resilience, and adaptability to respond to each student’s unique needs.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations with patience.
* Life experience or understanding around SEMH and special educational needs can greatly enrich your ability to connect with our students.
