In-House Lawyer Location: St. Andrew’s Knighthead Park, Birmingham Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 (depending on experience) Birmingham City Football Club is seeking an In-House Lawyer to support our legal, governance, data, risk, and compliance functions. Reporting to the Head of Legal & Governance, you will play a key role in contract negotiation, risk management, data protection, and compliance, ensuring the Club operates to the highest legal and regulatory standards. What You’ll Be Doing: ⚖ Legal & Contracts: Provide legal advice across the business, covering commercial contracts, employment law, intellectual property, data protection, regulatory law, and litigation. Support player recruitment, loans, transfers, and sales. Help develop and maintain a contract database for suppliers and commercial partners. Assist in delivering an intellectual property strategy. Governance & Compliance: Ensure compliance with corporate governance requirements, including the upcoming Football Governance Code. Support policy development and ensure best practices are followed across the Club. Assist with regulatory issues, safeguarding, and observation requests or charges from regulatory bodies. Data Protection & Risk Management: Assist the Head of Legal & Governance in GDPR compliance and data protection matters. Manage individual data subject rights requests. Support risk management, including maintaining Strategic & Operational Risk Registers and crisis management for matchdays. What We’re Looking For: ✔ Qualified lawyer (1-4 years PQE) with experience in contract negotiation, employment law, and/or litigation. ✔ Ability to negotiate commercially beneficial agreements while maintaining strong legal and ethical standards. ✔ Strong understanding of corporate governance, data protection (GDPR), and risk management. ✔ Excellent problem-solving, communication, and relationship-building skills. ✔ Experience in sports law, in-house legal work, or risk management is desirable but not essential.
