We are looking for a full time (35 hours) Senior Energy Policy Officer on a Permanent basis.

We work in a professional way towards our shared goals, knowing the work we do makes a genuine, lasting difference on the environment. As a Senior Energy Policy Officer for SEPA’s Energy and Air Quality unit. Your role will include:
* maintaining a strategic view across all interconnected areas of energy regulation in different teams, ensuring no unintended environmental or regulatory consequences in our regulatory and policy influencing role
* providing specialist energy advice and support to regulatory and planning teams who are responsible for ensuring existing and future energy sector developments minimise impact on the environment and communities

This is a highly important role within SEPA as it is the only dedicated Energy post in the organisation. It has key responsibilities for ensuring SEPA meets its mandatory duties in respect to energy, making a significant contribution to SEPA’s commitment to climate resilience and net zero Corporate Plan strategic priorities and Annual Operating Plan Protect and Improve pillars and the AOP commitment to regulate to drive more efficient energy and resource use which means you’ll need to demonstrate:
an understanding of the legislative frameworks relating to energy. Specifically, the post holder should be familiar with emerging energy policies including those for the production of heat and electricity and fuels, energy storage and energy efficiency
a broad understanding of the impacts of energy production, transmission, use and storage on the environment
the ability to work collaboratively and in partnership, both internally and externally, to deliver key tasks and project
the ability to effectively communicate SEPA’s Energy Framework, co-ordinate the delivery of key actions and to understand our role as a delivery agency of the Scottish Governments Energy Strategy.
