What skills and experience we're looking for
PURPOSE OF ROLE:
To assist in providing an effective and personalised teaching programme for individuals or groups of children supporting their specific learning need.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support for children
• To work on individual programmes with the children under the direction and guidance of the Class Teacher and the SENDCo.
• Accompany staff and pupils on visits, trips and out-of-school activities as required, to support SEND pupils.
• To communicate with parents and contribute to effective home school relationship.
• Attend to pupils’ personal needs, including toileting, social, health, hygiene, first-aid and welfare matters.
• To assist in supervising the children at break-times and meal-times, as required by their needs.
Support for the curriculum
• To assist teachers to deliver the curriculum to children who have additional needs within the classroom framework.
• To assist teachers in creating adapted and modified resources to meet the individual needs of the pupils.
• To assist in the school’s Forest School Provision
• Under the direction of Class Teacher/ SENDCo, provide learning support for individuals and small groups who require targeted support or intervention
• Be involved in individual, group or class assessment and target setting activities, as required.
Support for the school
• To assist in the formulation and implementation of support plans as directed by SENDCo, in line with school policy.
• To provide the Class Teacher and SENDCo with detailed feedback and assessment on children's progress to inform the next stage of planning.
• Participate in planning and evaluation of learning activities with the teacher, providing feedback to the teacher on pupil progress and behaviour, as required.
• To support the Class Teacher in the implementation of the expectations and policies of the school.
• To meet and liaise with external professionals and experts who may work with the child.
• To attend parent meetings alongside Class Teacher and SENDCo, as required.
• To assist in the compilation of reports and records in accordance with school policy.
• To participate in school activities and attend staff meetings and training courses as required.
The duties and responsibilities in this job description are not exhaustive. The postholder may be required to undertake other duties as determined by the Headteacher.
