The Opportunity
This role is based at our Glasgow Traincare Centre.
An excellent opportunity to join a world leading Engineering Company where you will work alongside qualified Technicians at our traincare centres.
The depot carries out various maintenance and overhaul activities. Maintenance activities range from daily safety inspections, routine exams, corrective maintenance and reliability modifications. We are primary location for the maintenance of the Caledonian Sleeper fleet of trains.
Your day-to-day activities will involve learning about and supporting operational activities around maintaining trains, including loco hauled coaching stock, CL334 mileage-based overhauls and CL390 tilting fleet.
You will be working as part of a multifunctional team responsible for diagnosing and repairing faults along with undertaking daily service exams.
Every day, around a third of all rail journeys in the UK are made on Alstom trains. We keep West Coast Main Line service running for around 34 million passengers every year and we service over 100 tube trains a day on London’s Northern Line, carrying nearly 1 million passengers daily. Today, we’re helping to turn Crossrail’s tunnels into a fully operational railway, electrifying the Edinburgh to Glasgow rail line and are helping the UK’s Rail Supply Chain to get ready for HS2.
Over a 3-year program, you will combine academic college studies with real life work-based experience across our organisation. Your qualification will be completed at Glasgow Clyde College – Training will be delivered by day release. The remainder of the time is spent at work in the depot. Accommodation and travel costs are met by the company.
You will have the opportunity to build and gather evidence of your competence whilst working towards a formal qualification.
Key Duties:
* Operate at an appropriate level carrying out designated tasks within the team assigned.
* Become trained and competent in carrying out daily and safety exams on all stable traction Bi mode EMU’s
* Carry out general depot duties e.g.: Line of Routes
* Provide technical support to the depot teams in the provision of primary fault finding/reporting
* Provide basic maintenance competency e.g.: side skirt cleans, brake pads, block changes etc.
* Carry out depot cleaning/general housekeeping
* Driving company vehicles if certified
* Crane driving and lifting equipment and training as required
* Provide corrective maintenance (Electrical or Mechanical)
* Provide preventative maintenance (Electrical or Mechanical)
* Provide secondary fault finding
* Positioning of fault data into shared drive facility
* Carry out Testing & Re-commissioning activities on vehicles and trains in accordance with pre-written test and commissioning procedures
* Investigate technical problems as instructed by central systems support team
* Functionally test train borne systems with minimal supervision using a variety of techniques and methods, including the use of computer-based diagnostics systems
Requirements of the role:
* To apply, you must have (or be predicted to have): - Minimum of 5 x National 5 certificates grade A to C - This should include Math’s, English and a Science - for Glasgow
* Good mechanical/electrical ability combined with understanding the importance of precision and accuracy.
* Self-motivated and able to demonstrate their commitment to achieving the apprenticeship award
* Be able to act as a member of a multi-disciplined team (with flexibility around team roles), and also able to work on your own initiative where required.
