Job Description Section Lead – Dockyard Projects (Submarines) Full time Derby (Raynesway) What you will be doing: An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Dockyard Projects Delivery Team for a Section Lead to lead a multi-discipline team to design and deliver fluid-based rigs that interface directly with the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP). The rigs support reducing boat maintenance periods through effective early management of boat system parameters and functions independently of the boat (e.g. plant temperature, chemistry, etc). You will work as part of a team consisting of mechanical, systems and EC&I engineers utilising support from other functions around the Submarines Business and wider enterprise. The projects will be fast paced with delivery dates which are challenging. This is an exciting time to join what is a growing part of the Submarines business. Responsibilities You’ll be developing fit-for-purpose, innovative engineering solutions, from concept to implementation, against customer and governance requirements, whilst adhering to stringent time, cost, and quality constraints. Developing requirements, determining feasibility, and deriving concepts for NSRP interfacing fluid system rigs. Producing design solutions and engineering drawings, then presenting at gated design reviews to demonstrate all key requirements have been met. Producing development test plans, then performing trials and demonstrations to fully validate and commission capabilities. Producing operating procedures, training personnel, and supporting initial on-site implementation activities. As a Section Lead you will have people management responsibilities for a multi-discipline team, as well as responsibility and accountability for delivering rigs alongside the other Section Leads in the team. Key Accountabilities include: Leading a team of multi-discipline engineers to deliver a rig design which includes aspects of systems, mechanical and electrical design. Being a point of contact for the customer regarding project progress updates, technical discussion, and problem resolution. Managing resource and tasks to deliver a detailed programme whilst maintaining cost and scope throughout. Working closely with an integrated Projects team to address engineering, project and commercial issues on the project and manage their impact. Why Rolls Royce? This role would suit a Design/Development Engineer with experience working on cradle to grave design projects for bespoke process equipment. This role is open to engineers from the Mechanical, Fluid System or EC&I disciplines due to the multi-discipline nature of the work in the team. A driven individual who has skills in planning, risk management and requirements capture and management. Design and development experience, preferably bespoke process plant equipment (pipework, valves, pumps, heaters & electrical control systems), and the production of the associated technical documentation. An understanding of sound engineering principles, including design for manufacture, design for assembly and maintenance and health and safety. Familiarity with design tools/techniques and ideally proficient in the use of software such as Flomaster, Siemens-NX or AutoCAD. A relevant Engineering qualification, or equivalent experience.
