The post-holders will participate in the day-time duties on the neonatal unit, postnatal wards, TCU and Delivery suite, Neonatal Clinics and in the neonatal on-call rota (requests for part-time working would be considered). This additional post is to meet BAPM recommendations for a 1 in 7 neonatal consultant rota, and we would welcome an interest in post-natal care/ATAIN.
The post holder will join 6 consultant neonatologists as the rota moves to 1 in 7. The neonatal unit at Poole (UHD) is part of the TV& Wessex Neonatal ODN and is designated as a Local Neonatal Unit (LNU) and caters to a population of c775,000 people across Dorset and provides neonatal service to about 4400 deliveries/year. We are expecting additional transfers following the redesignation of Salisbury and Guernsey LNUs to SCBUs. There will be a planned contract of 10 programmed activities. Flexible working/part-time applications would be welcomed, though we are required to maintain a 1 in 7 on-call to meet BAPM requirements.
The post holder will be expected to:
* Provide one ‘hot’ neonatal service week in 7.
* Provide 2-3 neonatal clinics per month, and departmental meetings.
* Participate in the neonatal on-call rota: currently 1 in 6 moving to 1 in 7.
* Provide SpR, medical student and ANNP training and teaching including NLS courses.
* Support maternity and neonatal assurance meetings (inc LMNS).
* Support NCEPOD and HSIB investigations.
* An interest in ATAIN/postnatal care would be welcomed.
UHD are investing in services across the Trust, with many being transformed and developed following merger and the New Hospital Programme. This means that some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or long term. Recruiting Managers interviewing for this role will be happy to answer any specific questions that you have about this at interview.
There is a planned move for this service anticipated 2025 when this role and base of work will relocate to Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance/reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder’s home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.
We do reserve the right to close this advertisement early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.
