We are looking for a proactive and compassionate Volunteer Coordinator to join our People Services team and help ensure that St Peter & St James Hospice is the place of choice to volunteer in our local community.
This is a key role supporting the recruitment, engagement and retention of our valued volunteer workforce — from their first contact with the hospice right through to ongoing development and support.
As a key part of our team, you will:
* Support the recruitment, onboarding, and induction of volunteers across all areas of the organisation.
* Champion volunteer engagement through events, communication, and presence across our sites.
* Maintain accurate records using our volunteer management system (Better Impact).
* Help promote volunteering through campaigns, events, and external engagement activities.
* Work closely with volunteer managers and the Volunteer Development Manager to ensure volunteers feel supported, valued and connected.
* Deliver and support induction training, including digital tools and mandatory e-learning.
* Be a point of contact for volunteer-related queries and help resolve issues in a compassionate, professional way.

Job Details:
* Location: St Peter & St James Hospice, BN8 4ED
* Salary: £23,574 - £25,199 per annum, FTE (Will be increased from 1st April)
* Working Hours: Part-time, 30 hours per week (job share considered)
* Contract Type: Permanent

Key Responsibilities:
* Coordinate recruitment and onboarding processes, including interviews, references and DBS checks.
* Maintain and develop volunteer records and data systems.
* Support the delivery of volunteer induction and training programmes.
* Attend and support engagement events across our hospice sites and in the community.
* Promote volunteering opportunities through internal and external channels.
* Assist in handling volunteer relations and contribute to volunteering projects and forums.
* Deputise for the Volunteer Development Manager at meetings when required.
What We’re Looking For:
To thrive in this role, you will have:
* Experience supporting or coordinating volunteers or people services activities.
* A proactive, approachable, and organised working style.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office 365.
* An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and good record-keeping.
* The ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
* A full driving licence and access to a vehicle (for visiting our retail shops and sites).
Desirable (but not essential):
* Experience using digital volunteer management systems such as Better Impact.
* Experience organising and delivering induction or training sessions.
