Description ABOUT THE ROLE The School of Design, Arts and Creative Industries is looking to employ a Grade 3 Technician within its Fashion Department. Providing support in the running of our Fashion workshops, assisting Senior technicians in delivery of practical sessions on a day to day basis. Further information can be found in the job description ABOUT THE TEAM Based within the specialist workshops of the Fashion Department within the Design school the successful candidate will become part of one of the largest specialist technical teams within the university, with a reputation based upon the support and engagement of the traditional and contemporary skill, craft and practice associated with fashion. From supporting the undergraduate programmes right through to working with PGRs and research projects the role will give the opportunity to work alongside and support colleagues, students and stakeholders in achieving a physical output to their creative goals. ABOUT YOU Ideally suited to a Fashion graduate or somebody who has a background and understanding of the practice within the field of garment cutting and construction. The role is Fashion focused, and the successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the associated skill and knowledge required to engage in a range of operational tasks within our specialist workshops by supporting staff, students, research and other stakeholders. During taught sessions the main focus of the role will be in supporting the Senior Technicians and Academics with practice-based delivery by providing basic process/techniques or machine support as required. An understanding and background in either garment construction or pattern cutting is therefore desirable. On a general level the successful applicant will also be expected to provide support with the daily running of the department through tasks such as stock control/ordering, running the haberdashery, housekeeping and induction prep where appropriate. A good working knowledge and application of current associated Health and Safety regulations and requirements within the Fashion context is also desirable.
