Locum Consultant Emergency Surgeon (Interest in Upper GI)

The successful candidate would be on a 10 PA contract with provision of higher PA on mutual agreement. This post will lead to a total of fifteen consultant surgeons within the department. This post will be required to be flexible to assist the speciality in delivering National Performance Standards.
This fixed-term contract will only be agreed for the maximum term of 24 months with the purpose of enabling you to complete your portfolio pathway (formerly CESR) application. During this period, we expect therefore that you positively and actively engage in this process and provide periodical evidence to confirm activity against this requirement cumulating into submitting your application in advance of the end of this contract. If you do not fully complete the pathway by the end of the contract or provide evidence when requested that you are taking steps to complete the pathway application, then your employment contract will be terminated.
Main duties of the job
The candidate will work on QEQM hospital site.
In addition to the clinical responsibilities of the post, the department is looking for a candidate who will bring to the department new skills, knowledge, and techniques. This may include patient safety, quality improvement, management, or research. Possession of proven capabilities in the candidate's chosen area of expertise together with high training would be advantageous.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
* Essential Medical degree from a recognised medical school
* FRCS or equivalent
* Full GMC registration
* GMC specialist registration
* Higher qualification - ND, PhD, MSc, MRCP
* Teaching qualification
Skills and experience
* Able to deliver services without direct supervision
* Evidence of thorough and broad training in General Surgery
* Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas and projects
* Peri-operative training
