Band 6 Dietitian: Renal

This post is aone yearfixed term1wte B6 renal dietitianbasedat Southmead, to cover a maternity leave within the renal teamstarting in June/July 2025. TheRichard Bright renal service at NBT, Southmeadis the largest renal unit in theSouth-Westand we provide specialist dietetic support for patients with Stage 4 & 5Chronic Kidney Disease(CKD), including dialysis and transplant advice.
We are looking for a B6 renal dietitian to work in our well-established renal team to covermostly outpatient work but with some inpatient cover. Experience is desirable but not essential as we are well accustomed to providing training for new B6s in the team, but enthusiasm and desire to work with patients with CKD is essential!You should have gainedat least 18 monthsexperience as a B5 dietitian, either in an inpatient and outpatient setting.

• This role isaprimarilyoutpatient-basedcovering two offsite dialysis units in South Bristol and Bath,and general nephrologytelephone clinics.The dialysis unit work would involve going out to the unitsmonthly,anda car is desirable. The weekly telephone clinics are with pre-dialysis patientswhere you would be expected to provide advice on reduced salt, healthyeatingand more specialist advice such as low potassium and low phosphate diets.The inpatient work would behelpingtoprovidecoverduring busy periods or annual leave coverto our28 bedrenal ward and renal outliers.
We also encourage and support CPD, so there are opportunities to take part and present in our regular CPD and clinical supervision meetings.We have dietetic students on placement from Plymouth regularly throughout the year andyou’dbe expected to be involved in their supervision and training.
We are a large dietetic team based at Southmead, and over the past two years have embraced remote and flexible working. Weare one of the largest NHS Trusts and providea number ofregional specialities including renal, major trauma, neurosciences.
Our dietetic team is very patient focused, friendly,flexibleand supportive. We provide clinical support and mentorship, regular CPD opportunities and annual appraisals. The trust is committed to multi-disciplinaryworkingand we have good IT facilities and admin support. The Trust supports evidence-basedpracticeand all dietitians are expected toparticipateinaduit, research, projects or study related to their areas of work.
The renal teamis a team of 9 dietitians and a B3 admin support, with a totalwteof 5.86 (including this post), and we work both remotely from home and in the office. We have regular team meetings, and clinical peer supervision meetings, and we also meet jointly for CPD meetings with other renal dietitians who work in Somerset.
