Our very happy, smiley 15-year-old client who can be somewhat mischievous is looking for an animal-loving Support Worker who would love to join him and his small care team in creating arts & crafts pieces and gardening! Interviews are being booked now, so please get in touch if you think the job below would be a good fit for you.
The Role:
Our 15-year-old client lives at home with his parents, dog, and 2 cats and is supported in achieving his therapy goals by his small care team.
Our client has cerebral palsy and epilepsy and uses a wheelchair full-time; he therefore requires round-the-clock support with all aspects of his daily living, including personal care (mostly on his medical grade floor mat), feeding, and medication.
He is currently non-verbal but is working with his therapists and team, along with using eye gaze and a smart box to communicate and gaining confidence with verbal language.
As a typical young boy, he loves being out and about and visiting places where he can enjoy interactive play, so the Support Worker would have to be able to drive his large, automatic vehicle. When at home, our client loves spending time in the garden and doing arts and crafts.
Full training in all aspects of our client's care will be given along with supervision and support from the private therapy team. You will be working with another Support Worker from the team.
About You:
You will be a driver able to drive our client's large, automatic vehicle.
You will have experience working with adults or children with Cerebral Palsy or similar and hold an NVQ 2 in Health & Social Care/Care Certificate (or equivalent).
You will provide support with feeding, hoisting, personal care, and administration of medication. He currently spends a large amount of time on a personalized medical grade floor mat, so you will need to be able to kneel, bend, crouch, roll him, and sit on the mat regularly whilst providing care.
Our client has friendly pets - two cats and a dog - so you will be happy to work in an environment where animals are present and you will have no allergies.
You will support our client by following his care plan and implementing his therapy program.
You will be flexible, reliable, patient, and have a positive and empathetic attitude towards working with a child with additional needs and supporting him whilst helping to develop his skills.
