To carry out assessment of patients as an autonomous practitioner including complex or chronic presentations, using a high level of clinical reasoning skills and integrating knowledge of evidence-based practice. To provide highly specialist SALT assessment and intervention to individual patients with neurological and non-neurological conditions presenting with complex needs within own caseload in the inpatient unit. Ensures adherence to national standards of evidence based clinical practice and develops guidelines when appropriate in collaboration with Integrated Therapies Lead. To have overall accountability for the planning and management of a highly complex and specialist clinical caseload To facilitate patient involvement in decision making at all stages of their clinical management, ensuring that they have consented to therapy intervention in line with Trust ethical-legal policies and the relevant Code of Professional Conduct Using expert specialist knowledge of communication and swallowing impairments, to undertake complex therapy assessments which include an evaluation of the impact of patients' diagnoses, stage of disease and agreed treatment plans on their ability to function and overall quality of life and to make clinical decisions on the most appropriate form of therapy intervention, both short and long term See further details within the Job description attached.
