Salary: $92,450 - $116,985

About the Role:
As Senior Media and Communications Advisor, you will report to the Team Lead Regional Communications, and lead, influence, and deliver strategic media and communications support to DOC's Eastern South Island regional operations teams, as well as supporting some national portfolios/projects.
Your Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership: Drive communications planning and support for complex issues and large-scale projects, providing advice and support to senior leadership.
2. Storytelling: Work with DOC staff and stakeholders to develop impactful and engaging content that informs and educates people on New Zealand's conservation challenges and successes.
3. Media Relations: Manage national media relationships to seize opportunities and manage reputational risks for DOC, including crisis management.
4. Iwi and Stakeholder Engagement: Work with Treaty Partners and influence and support internal and external stakeholders, including Ministers and other government agencies.
Skills and Experience:
We are looking for an adaptive self-starter with strong communication planning and writing skills. Ideally, you should have:
1. Experience leading strategic communications and media relations.
2. Substantial creative experience in storytelling using a range of communications channels.
3. Experience developing and implementing effective systems to manage critical communications issues and risks.
4. Ability to understand multiple issues, manage conflicting priorities, and operate to a high standard.
5. Excellent communication and collaboration skills with stakeholders.
6. Proven ability to provide strategic advice to senior leaders and mentor teams.
7. Strong political acumen and judgement.
8. A tertiary qualification in communications, media, public relations, or marketing.
Desirable:
1. Experience partnering and engaging with iwi and tangata whenua.
2. Full New Zealand driver licence.
About the Team: The Media and Communications Team provides media and strategic external communications support and services across DOC.
