Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist

We are looking to recruit new team members to the Mainstream Schools team. The positions have become available due to internal promotion.

We are a team working collaboratively in schools providing a high-quality service to children with a range of special educational needs.
We provide SLT to children and young people:
* with SEN support and EHCPs in Brent primary schools
* with EHCPs in secondary and FE settings
* with EHCPs who attend out-of-borough schools
This post is open to either newly qualified SLTs or those with some experience who would like to develop their skills in working with Mainstream Schools.
Main duties of the job
Your role would include:
* The assessment of CYP with a range of speech, language, and communication needs including DLD, ASD, and selective mutism.
* Working directly with children in groups and individually, as well as offering advice and strategies to school staff and parents.
* Liaising with parents and other professionals.
* Providing training for your allocated schools.

Person Specification
Education/Qualification
* Degree and Licence to Practise from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.
* Current registered membership of HPC and RCSLT.
Experience
* Working with children in clinics and/or school-based settings.
* Training others.
* Adult-Child Interaction (ACI).
* Working with multi-cultural client groups.
Skills & Knowledge
* Awareness of needs of parents, teachers, and others.
* Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of children with a broad range of speech, language, and communication difficulties.
* Manual dexterity for signing.
* Manual dexterity sufficient to carry out swallowing assessment and use of high and low technical assessment equipment.
* Normal Child Development including Speech and Language, Play, and other milestones.
* Knowledge of appropriate range of assessments and interventions for children with Speech, Language, and Communication impairments.
* Education Practice and Policy and National Curriculum Religious, Cultural, and Linguistic issues impacting upon caseload management.
* Awareness of national policies and procedures (relevant to school-aged children).
* Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group).
* Knowledge of professional standards of record keeping.
* Assess the speech, language, and communication skills of school-aged children using formal and informal assessments.
