Design & Application Engineer
This largely remote-based role will be working for one of UK's largest refrigeration service providers as a key regional design & application engineer, joining the contracting team to ensure client needs are satisfied and that the industry-leading technical knowledge and support are maintained.
Purpose
The job holder will be responsible for the scope, design, estimating, and financial reporting of refrigeration systems in the retail sector, and in turn work closely with our project managers and installation teams to deliver these projects on time and on budget. This role will be mainly remote, but will involve occasional trips to the sites in the South.
The job holder will be responsible for meeting clients, surveying sites, and designing refrigeration / air conditioning systems. This will require liaison with contractors from other trades who may also be working on the same projects and providing related information such as method statements and health and safety documentation.
The job holder will compile detailed engineering schedules, isometric sketches, service route, and plant layouts in preparation for CAD department production.
Key Responsibilities
1. Surveys / client liaison and creating detailed reports and scopes of works.
2. Development of projects alongside internal and external stakeholders such as consultants, architects, and main contractors.
3. Design / selection of equipment for example pipework design, plant design, cold room calculations, engineering schedules.
4. Attend design team meetings, and other team meetings (where required) for example cost, programming meetings.
5. Quoting / competitive tendering, valuations, application of payments, final accounts, and cost variations.
6. Procurement of capital equipment.
7. Health & Safety for example RAMS, COSHH, design risk assessment, PESR, O&M documents.
8. Back costing analysis, often in conjunction with our accounts department.
9. Project financial reports / assist admin with SAP.
10. Working with a number of customers at any one time. This requires the candidate to maintain a high level of understanding regarding customers' individual specifications and requirements.
Experience/Skillset Required
1. Experience of design within commercial / retail refrigeration.
2. Technical knowledge of refrigeration systems.
3. Desirable qualifications would be ONC / HNC in building services engineering (or related field), NVQ in refrigeration / air conditioning.
4. Working knowledge of Whiterose Micropipe & Mistral calculation software is a distinct advantage.
5. Read and understand technical drawings.
6. Understanding of Health & Safety regulations and requirements.
7. Ability to work within a team.
8. Computer / MS Office literate.
9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
10. SAP knowledge or experience is desirable; however, training can be provided.
