Teaching Personnel is working with a secondary school who are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join their resourced provision team on a maternity cover basis, supporting pupils with autism. The resourced provision offers targeted support for students with identified needs and are committed to creating an inclusive, respectful, and nurturing environment where every student can thrive. This rewarding role involves providing support to students within the resourced provision as well as in the mainstream classroom, focusing on those with social, emotional, communication, and language needs. As a Learning Support Assistant (LSA), you’ll play a crucial role in helping these pupils navigate their educational journey, offering them the support they need to develop confidence, independence, and positive social interactions.
Key Responsibilities
* Individual Support: Work closely with identified students with autism, providing tailored assistance based on their individual needs.
* Classroom Integration: Support students both within the Resourced Provision and the mainstream classroom, helping them engage with their learning materials and manage transitions.
* Social & Emotional Development: Assist students in developing communication, social, and emotional skills through supportive and patient interaction.
* Collaboration with Staff: Work alongside teachers, SENCo, and other staff members to ensure a consistent, collaborative approach to supporting student's needs.
* Learning Adaptation: Modify and adapt learning materials to make lessons more accessible for students with autism, ensuring they can engage fully with the curriculum.
* Progress Monitoring: Regularly monitor and document student's progress, reporting any changes or developments to the appropriate team members.
* Encouraging Independence: Help pupils build their self-confidence and independence, gradually encouraging them to take ownership of their learning and social interactions.
Key Requirements
* Experience: Previous experience working with children with autism or other special educational needs is highly desirable.
* Empathy & Patience: A warm, empathetic approach with patience and understanding when working with students who may need additional support.
* Adaptability: Ability to adapt to student's individual learning styles and needs, and willingness to modify approaches as required.
* Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, to effectively support students with social and language needs.
* Collaboration: A team-oriented mindset, working closely with other staff members to support pupils’ educational and personal development.
* Commitment to Inclusivity: Dedication to fostering an inclusive environment that respects and values the individuality of each pupil.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
