Our Shared Service functions work collaboratively to provide the essential business infrastructure that supports effective operations out on the network. Based in Horsham, West Sussex, our friendly teams ensure our divisions can access the resources they need to deliver the high standards their clients and the travelling public have come to expect from us.
We are looking for a Project Manager with a focus on Infrastructure. Reporting to the IT Programme Manager, the Project Manager's role is to deliver multiple concurrent ICT projects through the full lifecycle within the agreed time, budget, and quality criteria.
The Project Manager will plan, execute, and finalise IT projects according to the governance criteria of the organisation. This includes acquiring resources, coordinating the efforts with various teams, and liaising with 3rd parties such as contractors, consultants, or vendors to deliver according to the plan.
Responsibilities
1. Define and manage project scope, milestones, and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with IT Management Team and stakeholders.
2. Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely fashion.
3. Liaise with various stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
4. Plan and schedule project timelines using appropriate tools.
5. Track activities, project milestones, and deliverables against the project plan providing regular and accurate reporting to stakeholders.
6. Motivate teams in a matrix managed environment.
7. Prepare and maintain all project management products and ensure appropriate project controls are consistently applied.
8. Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout the project lifecycle.
9. Ensure that effective relationships are built and maintained with and across business units.
10. Coordinate and manage multiple suppliers in the delivery of projects.
11. Collaborate with analysts, designers, and system owners in testing new solutions.
12. Ensure that project risks and issues are accurately captured, quantified, and managed.
13. Production of technical, functional, training, communications, and other deliverables as required.
14. Requirement gathering and definition when required.
15. Coordination of system and user acceptance testing.
Acquisition & Deployment
1. Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
2. Draft and submit budget proposals and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.
3. Negotiate with other department managers to acquire required personnel from within the company.
4. Determine and assess the need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments, if necessary, during the project cycle.
Operational Management
1. Report upon the project status every week.
2. Direct and manage project delivery from end to end.
3. Develop full cycle project plans along with associated documents.
4. Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
5. Identify and manage risks, issues, constraints, and dependencies within the project.
6. Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
7. Proactively manage project change requests to scope, budget, or timelines and devise appropriate contingency plans.
8. Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
9. Create test cases, scripts, and scenarios that will ensure project delivery against agreed specifications.
10. Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the project's success.
11. Write and deliver training workshops, sessions, materials, and presentations.
12. Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
13. Conduct post-project reviews, lessons learnt analysis, and create project closure report detailing successful and unsuccessful project elements.
14. Contribute to the project delivery improvements by developing best practices and tools.
Additional Information
1. Be willing to visit other company locations in the UK and abroad as required.
2. Qualification in a recognised project management methodology preferred, e.g. Prince 2, PMI, APM.
3. Experience in working within an ITIL environment.
4. Experience in projects delivering IT infrastructure, COTS software, mobile apps, Microsoft Office 365, Internet of Things, and Big Data would be of interest.
5. No less than three years in IT project management roles.
6. Willingly carry out any reasonably related task as requested by the management team.
