The Land Safety Engineering Team supports both military and commercial sector projects. These include critical military vehicle and equipment acquisitions projects, mid-life improvement and training simulator projects of significance to the UK Army capability. The requirement for new and innovative technologies such as electric drives, autonomous and robotic systems needs individuals from diverse backgrounds to support the creation of robust Safety Cases for use of this equipment in an ever-changing environment. We also support customer requirements to demonstrate safe and effective use through trials and experimentation.
To bolster the Land Safety Engineering Team we are looking for individuals from a broad range of backgrounds in particular military vehicles, vehicle engineering, mechanical, electrical and Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives. Military domain knowledge is not essential.
Overall Purpose of the Job:
To provide Land Systems safety engineering skills and advice to external and internal clients and to assist in the development of business growth. Tasking will be provided and supervised by the Project Manager and Principal Safety Engineers where necessary, although a degree of self-starter experience will be necessary.
The primary output for this role will be provision of safety engineering expertise to deliver defined artefacts in support of projects to our clients. Artefact production will cover the whole range of Safety Management System (SMS) documentation for a wide variety of Land Systems platforms/equipments, and the applicant should possess analytical skills to examine evidence to support a safety argument. Ability in the use of safety engineering tools and techniques together with excellent report writing skills is essential for the delivery of output.
The successful candidate will need to be flexible to work in a variety of other domain safety support roles within a team, and must be prepared to travel within the UK, often to remote sites, to meet customer and internal business needs.

Person Specification:
* Essential Education, Qualifications and Training:
o Engineering degree or equivalent.
* Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
o Analytical and logical thinking skills consistent with those associated with the successful completion of a degree in mathematics, science or technology; also, the jobholder must have conceptual flexibility and be able to think in an integrated/holistic/systematic manner;
o Good judgement for reliably identifying and managing risks, and also for selecting the most appropriate solution from a range of options;
o Good questioning, listening, influencing and general interpersonal skills to obtain relevant and accurate information from others;
o Good oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills;
o A team worker with a collaborative willingness to influence/persuade others to align to a particular course of action;
o Knowledge and experience in working with the regulatory organisations.

* Chartered Engineer;
* Masters' Degree in Safety related discipline;
* Experience of the design, operation, maintenance, repair or safety management of military land vehicles or equipment;
* Experience of the design, operation, maintenance, repair or safety management of Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives;
* Experience of compliance assessments against UK legislation and Defence Standards in the land domain;
* Experience of writing and reviewing safety documentation for a variety of weapon systems including medium and large calibre munitions, light munitions including detonators and small arms. Following guidance in DSA03.OME previously JSP 520.
