Ward are an award winning, family business who operate in the waste management and recycling sector across the East Midlands, North West and York. We are looking for an Environment & Sustainability Manager to join our business.
The role of the Environment & Sustainability Manager is to ensure that Ward fulfils its environment and sustainability legal compliance obligations, maintains its ISO 14001:2015 accreditation, meets all the required standards to maintain Ward’s environmental permits and implement Ward’s 10-year sustainability roadmap, The Ward Way.
As the manager of this small and important department, you will work in partnership with the Board of Directors, HR and Operations Managers across our nine locations, and group companies, to achieve and implement The Ward Way. We are working towards achieving our net zero targets and other sustainability goals whilst remaining competitive within the marketplace.
You will collect and analyse data, produce reports and make recommendations to The Board. You will use your commercial awareness to contribute to bids and tenders and represent the company at external events, such as the BMRA Low Carbon Committee and CIWM Waste Regulation SIG, so having excellent communication skills and a passion for your role at Ward is essential. You will keep abreast of developments within the sector and participate in conferences and other knowledge sharing platforms. You will have a visible presence across all of our sites, conducting site audits and liaising with operational teams regularly.
You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of Ward's ISO Environmental Management System ISO 14001:2015.
Minimum Requirements:
1. A degree in an environmental discipline.
2. At least 3 years experience in an Environmental Management or Senior Sustainability role.
3. Experience with reporting through EcoVardis or similar platform.
4. Experience within the waste and recycling sector (advantageous).
5. Previous management experience (managing one direct report - Environment Advisor).
You will undertake a varied role and take the lead in delivering ESOS, SECR, Decarbonisation Plan, SBTi and Climate Change Adaptation Plans. You will liaise with the Environment Agency occasionally and manage the company’s energy portfolio.
The role will be based at one of our largest processing facilities in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. This is an office based role; however, visits to our nine locations are essential, and an electric company car is provided.
You’ll receive a competitive salary (negotiable based on experience), enhanced annual leave entitlement alongside our other company benefits such as life assurance, the Employee Assistance Programme, discounts on Ward services and retail, and holiday discounts through our Wisdom App.
If you are interested in this role, please email your CV and covering letter to Katie Brown at kbrown@ward.com.
