About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Major Projects Team, based at Hinkley Point, Bridgwater.
Hinkley Point C is a multi-billion-pound nuclear power station that stands as a cornerstone of the UK’s energy future. This landmark project will play a crucial role in meeting the UK’s energy needs and driving sustainable progress.
Our experts have used state-of-the-art technology to excavate a total of nine kilometres of tunnel, which has been lined with 38,000 concrete segments forming 6000 lining rings. The tunnels are currently being connected to the seabed by vertical shafts and capped with large intake and outfall heads, each weighing close to 5000 tonnes, that allow sea water to pass into the tunnels. Both the concrete segments and the heads were manufactured to exacting specifications at a purpose-built state-of-the-art facility at Balfour Beatty’s site in Avonmouth, Bristol.
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will provide expert guidance to the Commercial/Quantity Surveying team and Project Directors/Managers on all matters related to commercial activities for a specific package or multiple packages. You will be responsible for ensuring robust commercial and contractual management while coordinating the efforts of all stakeholders involved in the execution of the assigned package(s), ensuring smooth project delivery and effective collaboration.

* To manage the feedback of commercial data to Planning and Estimating
* The ability to review tenders and cost data
* To manage the preparation of Target Cost for a Project
* To co-ordinate the commercial team to ensure programme issues are identified and actioned
* To manage the preparation and review of Earned Value Management
* Manage the preparation of the monthly operating statement and associated commercial reports
* To be able to report and explain the commercial progress to senior teams
* To manage the feedback of commercial data to Planning, Estimating, Marketing and Sales
* Formulation of management plans for resource procurement
* Understanding of disputes resolution including options, structure as well as knowledge of the SCL Protocol
* chain management and procurement techniques, estimating and surveying functions
* Management and reporting of Commercial Risk and Opportunity
* Management of disallowed cost
* Experienced in the recruitment and development of talent within the business
* Ability to provide feedback on team members strengths and weaknesses and support performance management
* Determining project commercial staff requirements
* Able to make connection between creative ideas and innovative outcomes and implement using a wide range of improvement techniques
* Managing risks and opportunities at a Project level and updating senior teams
* Can see the big picture and can spot the point at which to make a trade off
* Is aware of political issues, and seeks win-win situations, whilst maintaining effective relationships
Who we're looking for
To join us in this role, ideally you will have some or most of the following:
* Extensive experience in Quantity Surveying within a relevant business environment
* Valid CSCS card and UK driving licence
* Working knowledge of construction and contract law along with various forms of Conditions of Contract.
* Significant knowledge of construction techniques on particular projects.
* BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent
* Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards
* Practical application of Microsoft Office – predominantly Excel
* Experience of using a cost system .e. Oracle or similar
