The University of Cambridge Language Centre is seeking to recruit a part-time Custodian to provide evening cover for the Language Centre, enabling student access to the learning centre (the John Trim Centre) and our language classes. In addition to general building security throughout the evening and on closure, the role holder also staffs the front desk and responds to operational queries relating to Language Centre equipment, undertakes general maintenance and tidying of classrooms and public areas as required. The Custodian also supports the team with routine clerical tasks (photocopying, shredding, etc.).
The vacancy is an average of 40% of full-time across the year, with longer hours during academic term time and shorter hours in the vacation period. Hours worked will vary according to the time of year (e.g., in or out-of-term time), with a fixed start time of 16:45 and end time of 18:15-21:15 depending on the time of year, working Monday to Friday.
The successful candidate will be educated to at least GCSE-level or equivalent. The ideal candidate will have already worked in a similar building security role and have basic IT literacy and IT problem-solving skills. Able to work independently, you should have good interpersonal and communication skills and enjoy helping staff and students with their enquiries, being able to juggle immediate priorities (e.g., simultaneous requests from staff and students) in a sometimes pressured situation.
