PURPOSE
To work alongside the dermatology team providing high quality, comprehensive patient-centred care within the clinic settings. Answerable to the Senior Sister/ Lead Nurse you will be able to communicate effectively at all levels within the multidisciplinary team and support in the provision of care: during Consultations, assist in minor surgical procedures and in the undertaking of supervised/ unsupervised wound care and clinical treatments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Main Responsibilities
* Assist Dermatologists and Surgeons with a range of specialised procedures from general dermatology and minor skin surgery through to phototherapy, mole mapping, cryotherapy and more, working within limitations of recognised role
* Support patient pathways in Dermatology and participate fully in the treatment and monitoring of patients
* Work alongside the Senior Sister/ Lead Nurse in meeting service requirements in line with clinical governance.
* Engage with new technology and practices, promoting this amongst the team in the drive to improve patient services.
* Ensure compliance with relevant NICE Guidelines, BDNG competencies and company policies.
* Always uphold and adhere to the Nursing & Midwifery Council Code of Conduct.
* Act as a role model to junior members of the team
* Be able to organise own workload effectively to meet clinic and patient requirement
* Be aware of and adhere to TDPs Policies and Procedures
* Ensure compliance with NICE Guidelines and TDP Policies.
* Promote the TDP Vision and Values amongst staff to promote a positive, patient focused culture within the clinic.
Clinical Responsibilities
* Support the patient throughout their visit ensuring safe and effective care from start to finish
* Ensure patients and carers have received sufficient, relevant verbal and written information relating to their treatment / proposed plan of care
* Supervise and support junior staff, qualified and unqualified when and where necessary.
* Support patient understanding through the provision of education and resources to patients, their families and staff.
* Educate each patient on how to protect their skin, prevent illnesses and care for skin diseases/conditions at home.
* Assist Consultants/Surgical staff with the collection of fine needle aspirations, core biopsies and skin sample specimens that require labelling & testing for histology
* Be prepared to chaperone patients whilst clinical examinations/procedures are being undertaken
* Assist in the set up and preparation of relevant equipment, facilities and paperwork when necessary for individual clinic sessions
* Act as patient advocate and always ensure patient satisfaction
* Promote high standards of clinical care to all our patients
* Assist in creating a supportive and caring environment within the clinic setting
Systems and Equipment
* Record biographical details of individuals in manual and computerised records.
* Prepare specific equipment required within the department prior to clinical procedures, using decontamination techniques prior to mandatory safety checks.
* Maintain, monitor, control and order stock and equipment within the department, reporting any deficit or maintenance required.
* Prepare clinical area and department prior to start of clinic
Clinical Governance
* At all times ensure Health and Safety Standards are adhered to by all clinical staff, in accordance with TDP Policy.
* Ensure you are familiar with and uphold TDP Policies, in particular those relating to patient safety – Incident Reporting, Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity, IP&C.
* Ensure processes, facilities and services are in keeping with CQC requirements and any identified concerns are escalated accordingly.
* Should an adverse event (something that should not have happened) occur, ensure this is reported appropriately and logged as per Company policy.
* At all times promote and ensure the TDP Infection Prevention & Control Policy is being adhered to.
* Continually monitor and review the work environment to ensure the safety of patients, service users, shareholders and staff.
* Assist the Lead Nurse / Sister in the completion of identified audits accurately and factually and respond accordingly to results that fall below required standard.
Confidential Matters
* Ensure that you are familiar with and adhere to TDP policy and procedures on Information Governance. This includes disclosure of information, records management and management of confidential information
* Always maintain patient confidentiality
* Assemble nursing documentation, including all stationery requirements for clinical sessions.
* Check clinic lists, reporting any discrepancies to the ‘appointed person in charge’
* Ensure accurate record keeping as per Clinic Processes
* Answer telephone calls courteously, relay messages accurately and promptly, and answer general enquiries by visitors
* Verbal handover of patient information to the Lead Nurse
Professional Standards and Performance Review
* Participate in statutory and mandatory training as appropriate for the post
* Maintain consistently high, personal and professional standards and act in accordance with the relevant professional code of conduct
* Take responsibility for the maintenance and improvement of personal and professional competence and to encourage that of colleagues and subordinates
* Participate in appraisal processes including identifying performance standards for the post, personal objective setting, and the creation of a personal development plan in line with outline for the post

CANDIDATE PROFILE
Academic/Vocational Qualifications
* Nursing Degree / Diploma - Adult
* Active registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council
Experience
* Post-registration nursing experience
* Experience in pre- and post-surgical clinical care
* Experience of delivering treatments in a dermatology setting
* Able to utilise and work with patient database systems
* Willing to undertake necessary training to support in the delivery of care
* Experience and knowledge of working in an outpatient / clinic set up
