Job Purpose
Lead the strategic development of the University's Digital Library (DL) services and activities, with particular emphasis in the areas of open access/research, institutional repositories, digital preservation and research data management. Research and implement innovative new digital library services. Lead the ongoing development and performance of the University's institutional repository service, Enlighten, and the activities supported within Enlighten.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Lead the research, strategic development and operational management of digital library services and platforms. Responsible for the University's institutional repository service, Enlighten (http://www.glasgow.ac.uk/enlighten); Library management system and associated Discovery Services.
2. Provide leadership and management to the Enlighten Team; College Librarians, Library Management System Manager, and Digital Curation Centre team.
3. Lead the development of the Enlighten service as a suite of tools to support the University's research management activities, such as the Research Excellence Framework (REF). Lead and co-ordinate Library Services' support for REF preparation and submission.
4. Lead the strategic development, co-ordination and dissemination of University policies in relation to the Enlighten Service, ensuring institutional consistency, transparency and fairness of policies and processes and to report annually on these processes.
5. Provide strategic high-level management information (including bibliometrics) and act as an interface for internal and external communication to support the University's research management and internationalisation agendas. Provide data to support the University's Key Performance Indicators for monitoring research impact.
6. Represent the University of Glasgow in national and international digital library institutional repository development and interoperability work; maintain and develop the University of Glasgow's existing reputation for excellence in these areas through professional membership of national and international working groups and boards.
7. Work closely with Research and Innovation Services, VP Research and Knowledge Exchange, IT Services, Corporate Communications and other parts of the University (e.g. College Research Administration Offices) in the strategic development of institutional repository and digital library activities.
8. Identify and develop opportunities for collaboration with existing research and development projects and programmes funded by bodies such as Jisc; participate and engage with the work of externally funded digital library projects and initiatives.
9. Disseminate and ensure that digital library developments are cascaded to colleagues across the University. Develop training programmes for the Digital Library Team and relevant staff in Colleges and University Services, ensuring that the University has the right skills and experience to achieve our goals.
10. Work as part of the Library Services Management Team to ensure achievement of overall goals for the Library Services Directorate, encouraging a strong team/customer focused culture.
