Job overview
As the Pharmacy Technician lead, you will be at the forefront of our modernisation programme. Your responsibilities will include:
* Providing leadership to a team of pharmacy technicians, scientists, and trainees while supporting a team of pharmacists.
* Delivering training to health care professionals across the Health Board and providing Medicines Advice to health care professionals and patients across multiple health boards and nationally.
* Collaborating with stakeholders to deliver innovative strategies for advancing medicines governance practices, with a strong focus on medicines safety.
We are looking for a qualified and experienced Pharmacy Technician with exceptional leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire teams and colleagues. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
* Organise the day’s work for the team, ensuring departmental work is completed within agreed timescales.
* Coordinate cover for annual leave, sickness, study days, and lieu time.
* Prioritise workload effectively and analyse situations to resolve problems.
* Contribute to service developments ensuring change is managed smoothly.
* Support and maintain a high-quality service conducted according to national and local guidance.
* Report departmental statistics, including errors and incidents, to the manager on a monthly basis.
* Provide specialist advice to patients regarding any MA related query received by the department.
* Provide a regular service to the dispensary or Medicines Management, including dispensing and accuracy checking medicines.
* Understand the competing priorities of risk management and financial pressures.
* Responsible for training and supporting technical pharmacy staff in the delivery of medicines advice.
* Act as “Key Trainer” for MA ensuring all staff are trained in local practices.
* Establish and maintain links with other senior technicians, managers, and other pharmacy staff.
Person specification
* BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science NVQ level 3 in pharmacy services
* Registered pharmacy technician with General Pharmaceutical Council
* Supervisory or Management qualification
* NVQ A1 assessor award
* Previous experience of Specialist Technician in NHS
* Extensive and broad experience of all aspects of pharmacy practice
* Experience of managing teams
* Accredited and experienced accuracy checker
* Experience of training/assessing staff
* Effective oral and written skills
* Experience of writing, developing, and implementing SOPs
* Previous experience in Medicines Advice
* Incident and error reporting
* Knowledge of hospital stock control systems
* Experience/knowledge of managing change
* Specialist skills in persuasion, negotiation, communication, and team playing
* Able to cope with conflict and handle difficult situations
