We have an amazing opportunity to join us as a Civil Operative within our Civil Operations team. You will play a huge part in the delivery of NGN’s Capital Programme of works, delivering civil engineering works across all NGN gas assets. We offer specific training and qualifications in this role and throughout your career at NGN.
The role requires hardworking, dedicated, and committed individuals who can be flexible, as this role will require early starts and evening work. Our civil operatives must be prepared to work sometimes in adverse weather conditions, so this is another important consideration before you apply.
Key accountabilities and responsibilities
1. Ensure adherence and compliance with health and safety regulations, including wearing appropriate protective equipment and maintaining a safe working environment in accordance with relevant HSE Legislation, Company Standards and Codes of Practice.
2. Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail in all tasks performed to a quality assurance standard.
3. Use materials, tools, and all equipment and resources efficiently to minimise waste and optimise productivity.
4. Complete assigned tasks within the set timeframes to keep the project on schedule.
5. Work effectively with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders, ensuring clear and timely communication and collaboration.
6. Identify and report any issues or potential obstacles promptly and contribute to finding practical solutions with your problem-solving skills.
7. Regularly check and maintain tools and machinery to ensure they are in good working condition and report any faults or defects.
8. Accurately complete and submit required documentation, such as timesheets, progress reports, and safety checklists.
9. Follow best practices for environmental protection, such as proper disposal of waste materials and minimizing the impact on surrounding areas.
10. Ensure that the needs and expectations of clients and stakeholders are met, always maintaining a professional and respectful attitude.
11. Assist the Lead Civil Operative on all civil engineering and groundworks projects.
12. With the appropriate training, you will operate and use mobile plant, mechanical lifting and handling equipment, tools and other equipment such as drills and power tools in a safe and competent manner ensuring that they are correctly maintained and stored, e.g., mini excavator, pneumatic tools etc.
13. Driving duties for the purpose of collecting or delivering materials and equipment.
What we are looking for
1. A self-starter with an understanding of the importance of a zero-tolerance safety culture and delivering excellent customer service every time by speaking with customers and understanding their needs.
2. Fit enough to meet the physical demands of the role and enjoy working outdoors in all weathers.
3. A team player with a can-do attitude.
4. Comfortable with adhering to the clean-shaven policy as part of our Health & Safety policy.
5. Assisting with Construction Tasks works including clearing debris, setting up signs and safety barriers, preparing the site for construction work, digging trenches, laying drains, paving roads, mixing, and pouring concrete, and operating machinery.
What we offer
1. A competitive salary of £31,980.00 per annum.
2. Incentive scheme- additional earnings of up to £3,000 per annum.
3. Full training provided.
4. 41.25 hours per week over a 7-day variable work pattern, including standby. Rotas are given in advance and will include some night shifts although this would not be expected on a weekly basis.
5. Free onsite parking.
6. 25 days annual leave (plus recognised bank holidays and 2 half days over the Christmas period).
7. SSP for first 7 calendar days then occupational sick pay.
