Alcohols Limited is a chemical distribution which was formed in 1955 as a subsidiary of The Palmer Group. It is a private family company founded in 1805 which is still family owned today.
This role will be primarily based on site at our new £23m facility in Rugby based at the Europark just off the A5 which has recently opened. (A5 Watling Street, Clifton upon Dunsmore, Rugby Warwickshire. CV23 0AJ). The site will also house a new distillery allowing us to add capacity to our current heritage site in Birmingham which will be retained. Langley Distillery is a renowned and historic distillery known for crafting high-quality spirits and liquors and producing exceptional products that delight customers around the world.
The Opportunity
The role is responsible for providing support and guidance on technical compliance matters and technical queries from internal and external customers relating to imports and exports. Responsible for HMRC reporting (W1/W5D/Tied oil etc), licencing and all aspects of dutiable goods compliance. Drive cross border movements (products and RMs) to deliver smooth gate-to-gate transit.
What you will contribute
* Follow the company initiatives for Safety, Health & Environment and exhibit leadership through own behaviours.
* Responsible for all cross border movements (import and export), ensuring unhindered transition of goods through customs and freight forwarders where appropriate.
* Responsible for the compliant movement of dutiable materials (EMCS), excise warehousing compliance and HMRC reporting (W1/W5D/Tied oils etc)
* Lead on the interface and communication with HMRC and other customs authorities, on all matters related to material import and export.
* Field technical queries alongside the wider technical team, and support customer/supplier questionnaires and manage daily customs and trade compliance issues/reports.
* Provide active support for key export account transactions through accurate preparation and dispatch of documents.
* Liaise with our approved custom agents and government bodies to mitigate the risk of unexpected costs by providing accurate information in an approved manner.
* Ensure all import and export duty tariff codes are correct and communicate any discrepancies or changes to business.
* Identify and communicate risks such as international trade compliance changes, restrictions and other requirements in governmental policies that may impact operations and on-time delivery to customers situated within the UK, European Union or Internationally.
* Communicate international market restrictions & requirements and their relevance to the business, including communication of customs alerts.
* Educate and assist internal stakeholders on due diligence and identifying threats along the value chain to mitigate the risk associated with dishonest conduct that detrimentally impacts reputation, quality or authenticity of our products.
* Prepare documentation to allow for booking of external export transportation of goods, including export licences and declarations.
* Provide instructions to Broker organisations for UK clearances for the company's imports and exports as required.
* Provide data and support to the finance team for VAT and other tax queries regarding dutiable products or product movements
What you will bring
* A-levels or equivalent with Import/Export or Supply Chain qualification (e.g., IoSCM certificate).
* Knowledge of Import/Export & Excise processes, customs clearance, duty/VAT, Incoterms, Tariff codes, and customs procedure codes.
* Experience with ERP software (e.g., Tropos, SAP, Oracle).
* Background in Chemicals or Food & Drink industries, especially with excise goods like Ethanol.
* Commercial awareness for decision-making based on cost, liability, and profitability.
* Excellent attention to detail for compliance checking of customs documents.
* Strong communication skills and ability to handle ambiguity.
* Highly organized with the ability to plan, make decisions, and deliver concise information.
* Practical and proactive problem-solving skills, flexible to support a dynamic business.

* Understanding of products, operational processes, transport partners, HMRC movements, EMCS, and international standards.
