Purpose of the role
The foreperson fitters role is to ensure that all Heidelberg Materials and 3rd party plant and equipment is maintained regularly and in-line with the manufacturer’s recommendations or Heidelberg Materials Contracting’s standard operating procedure and safe working practices to ensure all plant used is both compliant and safe for use whilst maximising downtime, managing costs and driving efficiencies.
Planning and scheduling reactive and proactive maintenance for all Heidelberg Materials Contracting and 3rd party assets.
Implementation, analysis, performance and improvement of asset maintenance.
Position will require day to day management of plant department fitting staff, yard/stores staff, workshops and yard areas along with associated tasks.
Working as team leader on the site, deliver, record and improve Heidelberg Materials Health & Safety standards on the site.
Promote Health & Safety culture within the workplace.
The position is to be measured through achieving agreed safety, environmental, and other operational performance levels, whilst constantly seeking improvements for sustained business efficiencies and environmental targets.
Key accountabilities
The primary scope of the role primarily involves leading and directing the fitting team, yard/stores staff, plant compliance, workshop/yard management and ensuring that the day-to-day requirements of the department are met.
The performance emphasis for this unit includes;
1. Workshop/yard inspections including site housekeeping, workshop compliance both legal and environmental.
2. Health & Safety management in line with Heidelberg Materials policies, including distributing and collation of tool-box talks, near hit reporting and associated actions, driving further improvements within the department.
3. Raise any Health & Safety concerns with the appropriate persons to take corrective actions in line with Heidelberg Materials policies.
4. Plan and implement a maintenance program for both Heidelberg Materials owned assets and 3rd party equipment as required.
5. Ensure all equipment/plant/vehicles that are not fit for purpose are removed from service until satisfied compliant and able to return.
6. Upload relevant data to the portal and supervise other staff to do likewise. Ensuring that data is correct, uploaded in a timely manner and remains auditable.
7. Liaise with management on site.
8. Liaise with external bodies to ensure key legal compliance, management of documentation as demonstrated (but not limited to) below:
1. PAT testing
2. Chain inspections
3. Jack inspections
4. Calibration of workshop equipment
5. Interceptor Cleaning
9. Check portal for reports of defects daily and assign jobs accordingly within the department. Ensure all defects are categorised accordingly, acted upon within the correct time frames and closed out within guidelines.
10. Identifying and ordering parts as required ensuring that all documentation is correct/received and reported in the correct manner ensuring correct cost capture.
11. Stock management within the workshop/yard – to include regular stocktakes.
12. Liaise with manufacturing/hire companies regarding Health and Safety concerns or identified improvements.
13. Liaise with manufacturing/hire companies regarding parts requirements and supply.
14. Liaise with manufacturing/hire companies regarding breakdowns/defects and ensure close out is complete.
15. Raise concerns to above and management if issues are identified.
16. Ad hoc supply chain management as required.
17. Organise for warranty or servicing work to be done on site or in the workshop as required.
Key measures for the role are:
1. Operating KPI’s, with particular emphasis on downtime, availability and plant coefficients.
2. Maintain and improve statutory and company compliance within pre-determined levels.
3. Ensure all Health & Safety standards set within the Heidelberg Materials policies are met and adhered to.
4. Internal & external customer satisfaction levels.
5. Cost capture and spend within the department ensuring best value is achieved.
6. Working with the Manager and wider team to ensure all operational management information is accurate, relevant and is used effectively to assist in the management of the business and the progression of all profit enhancing opportunities, environmental and safety improvements.
7. Operate to the highest level of environmental objectives in line with Heidelberg Materials’ Environmental Management Plan. Communicate and assist the Asset Manager to action a plan of continuous improvement in this area.
8. Strive for continued improvements within all aspects of the role and within the wider Heidelberg Materials division.

Education/Qualification
All would be an advantageous but training could be given to the correct applicant.
* Experience in plant maintenance or associated industries.
* Extensive knowledge and experience in the maintenance of vehicles, machinery and engineering plant.
