Job Description
ALTEN UK is seeking a Systems Engineer to support a long-term defence programme involving mission-critical Naval and Air Defence systems. You'll contribute to the design, development and qualification of advanced communication, control and electronic warfare systems, applying structured systems engineering processes across the full lifecycle. This is a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of secure, high-integrity defence capability.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support full systems engineering lifecycle activities using the V-Model, from requirements capture through to system qualification and acceptance.
2. Lead or contribute to system design and architecture definition, including interface control and functional decomposition.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define and resolve technical system behaviours and integration challenges.
4. Conduct or support system integration, verification and validation activities in lab and field environments.
5. Maintain and manage system requirements using industry tools and ensure traceability through the lifecycle.
6. Support the development of qualification evidence and contribute to technical reviews, compliance documentation and system safety activities.
Qualifications
Skills & Experience Required:
1. 5+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer in defence, aerospace or secure mission systems domains.
2. Strong practical knowledge of the V-Model and system development methodologies.
3. Experience with requirements engineering tools (e.g. DOORS, Jama, or equivalent).
4. Proven background in system design, integration, and verification.
5. Familiarity with secure communications, electronic warfare, or command and control systems.
Desirable Skills:
1. Experience supporting system qualification and compliance in line with defence standards.
2. Exposure to Naval or Air Defence environments.
3. Understanding of safety and assurance frameworks within high-integrity systems.
Qualifications & Security:
1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Master's preferred) OR
2. Military/Armed Forces background in a technical or systems engineering role is equally valued.
3. Must be UK Eyes Only (UKEO) and SC clearable - minimum 5 years in the UK residency required.
