Would you like to be part of an award-winning NHS Trust located on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales? Then we have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our Colorectal and General Surgery Team.
The post will be based at Airedale Hospital. Airedale NHS Foundation Trust serves a population which extends over a wide and diverse geographical and demographic area, from the Yorkshire Dales, to the small market town of Skipton, Ilkley, and urban Keighley. The hospital lies between Keighley and Skipton, only 10 miles from the multicultural city of Bradford and within an hour from Leeds.
Main duties of the job
Duties:
* To deliver a high-quality service to general surgery and colorectal patients from the Airedale Health Economy
* Maintain the provision of elective and emergency surgery care as part of a general surgical team and provide comprehensive management for general and colorectal patients joining a team of 4 colorectal cancer surgeons.
* Possess experience and skills across a range of surgical techniques and be competent with the following procedures including, but not limited to:
* Open and laparoscopic and colorectal surgery (Robotics experience desirable but not essential)
* Anorectal pathology
* Experience of pelvic floor surgery desirable
* General surgical procedures – laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernias laparoscopic and open
* JAG accredited Endoscopy skills – lower GI essential, Upper GI desirable
* Outpatient clinic skills
* Participate regularly in clinical governance activities, teaching and in the cancer unit peer review process
* Participate in our objective achieving the local and national access waiting time targets including referral to treatment (RTT)
* Comply with the GMC requirements of Duties of a Doctor & Good Medical Practice

The Department has 60 inpatient beds – female ward is shared with gynaecology, urology and gastroenterology, male ward is shared with urology and gastroenterology. There is a dedicated elective surgical ward and a day case surgery ward.
Airedale has 9 theatres including a newly opened barn theatre, and a procedure suite used for ophthalmic procedures. The Department is well-equipped for all types of general surgery and urology. In addition to the usual surgical facilities, the theatre has full laparoscopic and endourological surgical facilities. The Department aspires to secure a surgical robot.
The Department participates in regional and national training courses and research.

Person specification
* Full registration with General Medical Council
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via - CCT (proposed to be within 6 months of interview)
* CESR or European Community Rights
* JAG accredited training the trainer
* Possess sufficient experience and skills to provide a consultant level service in acute general surgery and elective general and colorectal surgery across a range of surgical techniques and be competent with the following procedures including, but not limited to:
o Laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery (Robotics experience desirable but not essential)
o Anorectal pathology
o General surgical procedures – laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernias – laparoscopic and open
o JAG accredited Endoscopy skills – lower GI essential, Upper GI desirable
o Outpatient clinic skills
* Good communication skills
* Evidence of participation in, and demonstrable commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the Trust. Ability to contribute to teaching by:
o Lecturing
o Small group teaching
o One-to-one supervision
* Ability to perform critical literature appraisal
* Evidence of recent and current research. Demonstrable knowledge of the up-to-date literature
* Experience of participation in regular clinical audit. Ability to undertake audit and implement key actions
* JAG accredited training the trainer
* Pelvic floor surgery
* Robotic surgery
* Distance learning or other modern learning methods
* Attendance at “training for teaching” course.
* Attendance at “assessment and appraisal” course.
* Demonstration of Interest in Educational methods (Certificate in Education)
