Job Position: Despatch Manager Department: Despatch
Reports to: Planning & Logistics Manager Hour: 40 hours per week
Shifts: Monday – Friday 8:00-16:30, with occasional weekend requirement (1 in 4)
Scope of Role
Avondale Foods is a leading food manufacturing company of Fresh and Chilled products supplying leading retail businesses such as Marks & Spencer, Waitrose, Dunnes, Morrisons, Aldi & Lidl throughout the UK & Ireland.
The purpose of this role is to manage the entire operations of all finished products from storage to timely delivery of correct products to customers whilst adhering to company’s rules, regulations and policies as well as strict Hygiene, and Health & Safety rules. To lead the Despatch team by example and ensure that you and your team are adhering to all company policies and procedures in relation to Product Quality, Food Safety and Integrity. Be a driver of productivity, efficiencies, setting standards of accuracy and presentation. Have the ability to liaise and integrate within the wider Avondale management team to help drive inter-company standards and improvements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the Despatch department in order to fulfil operational and customer demand, whilst meeting set targets of productivity, accuracy and stock control.
2. To drive the entire department towards the importance of complying with the Company’s standards on Food Safety and Health and Safety and to investigate any issues through to conclusion resulting from any breach of such.
3. To lead a team of Supervisors, managing their contribution and leading by example to achieve results by coaching, developing and setting performance targets on a collective and 1:1 basis.
4. Ensure that all documentations and records are accurate and updated for traceability.
5. Address any department related issues arising from internal and external customer complaints.
6. Set an example and maintain audit ready standards.
7. Drive great housekeeping in the chill and general surroundings at all times.
8. Oversee training of new and existing department personnel on department procedures. This includes conducting department specific training for new personnel as well as reviewing their performance during probationary period.
9. Promote a harmonious working relationship within the Department by holding regular meetings, dealing with any grievance, and also by managing non-performers through counselling and disciplinary in accordance with Company procedures.
10. Ensure 100% stock accuracy within the department by recording all movements into and out of the despatch areas as well as daily stock takes.
11. Ensure that all vehicles, machinery and equipment is well maintained and fit for purpose.
12. Support the execution of despatch related and site wide projects.
13. Set the pace with the use of existing Warehouse Management Systems and to challenge further development.
Essential
* Previous experience working in Despatch within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
* Expert competence utilising Warehouse Management Systems and Microsoft Packages.
* Tactically astute but strategically driven.
* Demonstrable ability to drive performance and colleague development.
* The ability to communicate effectively with all different levels of colleagues, and in different formats.
* Level 3 accreditation in Health and Safety, and Food Safety.
Desirable
* Previous experience of working in a ‘lean’ working environment.
* MHE licences.
* Auditor training.
