Data Protection Manager - Manchester / remote
BCL is legal is working an award winning national firm on the recruitment of an in house Data Protection Manager to join its compliance team based in Manchester. The role is also open to part time candidates and offers home based working.
The Role
- Based within the Risk & Compliance team, reporting to the R&C Director
- Implementing and maintaining an information governance framework to support efficient, compliant and ethical processing of data, including assigning ownership and defining roles/responsibilities
- Ownership for ensuring that all information assets, policies, procedures and controls comply with industry good practice, as well as the legal and regulatory needs of the business.
- Play a critical role in identifying, articulating, reporting and managing the risks associated with information governance and data protection compliance.
- Provide support towards compliance with certifications and accreditations, including ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus, as well as clients' requirements around data protection.
- Collaborating closely with the Information Security Manager to ensure that data protection compliance is considered alongside cyber/information security.
- Providing expert guidance in raising awareness and training to develop the risk awareness within the firm.
Requirements
- A solid understanding of current and future legislative requirements of data protection including Data Protection Act, GDPR and Digital Information Bill is required for this role.
- Previous experience working within a risk and compliance team and experience in software and technology would be advantageous.
- Similar experience in a law firm would be ideal but DP experience in other professional services firms will also be considered
