Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are looking for an Operations Officer to support our Operations Officer. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will earn a competitive salary of £43,693 - £50,788 per annum. About the Operations Officer role Working mainly from our depot in Stowmarket, you will plan, lead, organise and control the operations of the grounds, countryside and street cleansing workforce to ensure that the Districts of Babergh and Mid Suffolk are maintained to a high standard, are clean and welcoming and meet the needs and expectations of the local community, stakeholders and visitors. You will plan the street cleansing maintenance route schedules and monitor cleansing work standards to ensure quality targets are achieved. You will ensure that all vehicles (and other equipment) are serviced, MOT’d and that appropriate fleet cover is in place. You will act as transport manager for public realm vehicles and other equipment and be nominated holder of Public Realm Vehicle Operators License. This is an exciting and diverse role requiring you to work closely with other Public Realm Officers across Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils to provide a seamless service, sharing resources to optimise the skills and experience of the team to deliver project outcomes. A Full UK driving licence with C1 E entitlement is essential for this role. About you Organised, efficient and inspiring, you’ll deliver a Public Realm Operations service to exceed expectations. You will need vocational experience in an Environmental field such as cleansing, grounds maintenance or horticulture. You will need a strong background in line managing and leading staff in a comparable operational environment, including experience of reviewing systems of work, ensuring a safety first mind-set and using technology and equipment to continue improving our standards and efficiency, ideally with an NVQ level 4 management qualification affording you sound knowledge of the operational management and motivation of large teams. Able to build rapport quickly, you will have the knowledge to lead and influence others in the work and the passion, drive and organisational skills to juggle a demanding role. You will also be competent in the use of Microsoft Office and information and communication technology to make best use of time and resources. This, combined with real attention to detail and a communicative nature, will see the team deliver a friendly, user-focused service. Some weekend working and out of hours emergency response handling are also a feature of this role.
