Isle of Wight Maternity Services have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Midwife to join our committed and highly skilled team of midwives working across the maternity service.
We are seeking an innovative and flexible Midwife that will work within our integrated approach to providing care to the women, birthing people, and their families. This will include working both in the acute and community setting, and providing a home birth service. You would cover a range of day and night shifts and also participate in the on-call service.
Main duties of the job
Working within a small, cohesive unit can provide you with the unique experience of providing personalised care and being skilled in all areas of the maternity service. As a team, we strive to provide excellent individualised, evidence-based care to around 1000 women and birthing people each year and support them to make informed choices about their care. We take pride in enhancing the pregnancy and birth experience for all women and birthing people, ensuring informed choice is at the forefront of our agenda.
The IOW Maternity Service is also part of the SHIP collaborative and works in partnership with our neighbouring trusts, including joint training and multiple opportunities for collaborative working. Our service is proud to offer development opportunities and support career progression.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current RM registration with the NMC and any other relevant post registration qualifications
* Full UK driving license
* Working towards NIPE qualification
* Attend regional units 5 days a year to work within both low and high risk environments
* Attended appraisal course
* Level 3 Safeguarding training
* Sound knowledge of child protection
* Sound knowledge of domestic violence
* Sound knowledge of substance misuse
* Sound knowledge of women and birthing people with additional needs
Communication Skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Able to demonstrate compassion and empathy with service users
* Self-motivated
* Approachable and Flexible attitude to work for the needs of the service
* Demonstrate strong motivation and ability to work autonomously
* Adaptable to changing practices and service modernisation
* Able to accommodate the demands of the post with flexible working as required and good attendance
* Current knowledge of professional issues on a local and wider NHS level.
Abilities and Skills
* Able to recognise own limitations in order to seek advice appropriately
* Able to prioritise work and work under pressure
* Able to undertake all midwifery duties without supervision
* Able to coordinate/lead midwife for the service area in the absence of the line manager
* Ability to manage sickness cover in absence of the ward manager
* Ability to implement staff contingency plan and deploy staff appropriately in periods of high activity
* Evidence of ward management / teaching
Technical skills
You must be able to meet the minimum of 4 of the following competencies:
* Basic neonatal and adult life support knowledge and skills
* Management of epidurals including giving 'top ups'
* Conduct and manage antenatal clinics
* Able to coach students and new staff members
* Perineal repair
* Perform and interpret CTG's
