Job Description
Governor
Voluntary
Clarkson Evans is the largest electrical and solar installer working in the new build housing sector, wiring over 24,000 homes a year. Established over 40 years ago, we now employ more than 850 staff across the UK and we work with the country's major house builders. Training apprentices is a core part of our ethos. Through our award-winning in-house training, we're proud to be continually developing newcomers to the electrical industry.
The Role
We're establishing a Board of Governors to play a crucial role in the strategic leadership and governance of the training centre. This voluntary position will provide valuable external insight and accountability to help us make sure we continue to meet the needs of our learners and build on the success that has allowed us to maintain our Good Ofsted grading.
We are looking to appoint Governors who will contribute their knowledge and experience to support our decision-making processes. Being a Governor is not just about giving back; it's also about personal growth, allowing individuals to share ideas with other experienced leaders and gain a sense of satisfaction from contributing to important skills development for young people.
Responsibilities
The nature of individual governors' input will vary according to their background and experience but it's expected that all governors will:
1. Prepare for, attend and actively participate in quarterly governor meetings.
2. Assist the Board in strategically overseeing training activities, setting targets and monitoring performance.
3. Use their professional and specialist skills to review and support decision-making, in a non-executive capacity.
4. Sense-check annual financial forecasts.
5. Review training centre policies and procedures to help ensure they remain fit-for-purpose and compliant.
6. Contribute ideas to support our objectives of maximising learner retention and attainment as well as diversity and inclusion.
7. Provide oversight of our annual self-assessment process and input regarding processes related to leadership, management and governance in particular.
8. Participate in appropriate induction, strategic planning, and training events to develop knowledge and skills, including reading educational material from various sources.
