Join COOK as Engineering Manager
Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm with some flexibility due to being a 24/7 operation.
£48,000 - £55,000 depending on experience
Our hardworking large-scale Kitchens have plenty of equipment constantly on the go, helping to make our Award-Winning remarkable food.
As part of the Engineering Team, the role will deliver leadership & management of Engineering within the food manufacturing Kitchen. Driving performance reliability of production equipment, services and infrastructure at one of our sites.
To deliver professional engineering maintenance practices & continuous improvement activities, whilst managing costs, working safely, to high standards and developing the team. Active involvement in departmental & Manufacturing Strategic objectives.
Main Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
1. Schedule the work of the Engineering Team & maintenance activities, at the Kitchen, identifying clear priorities with Management and as part of the Site Leadership Team
2. Lead by example following the company Values, policies, processes & role modelling safe behaviour
3. Develop, manage & support the Engineering Team
4. Alignment with L&D to deliver training plans to ensure the team trained as per requirements
Equipment Reliability:
1. Ensure appropriate response to breakdown and equipment failure to minimise downtime
2. Ensure the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) plan is completed to schedule and compliantly whilst reviewing the effectiveness of the plan and the PPM tasks, to improve equipment & plant reliability
3. Management of assets & critical equipment with parts review process
4. Providing clear communication to the Engineering Team and Kitchen Leadership Team regarding team activities, future plans and opportunities for improvement
Engineering Budget:
1. Responsible for the Engineering Repairs & Maintenance budget; manage spend to budget
2. Management of service contracts and supplier support; negotiations and costs
3. Deliver effective communication for financial KPI & spend reports
Safety & Compliance:
1. To personally demonstrate safe behaviour and hold responsibility for the management of engineering Health & Safety of the site for the Team and Contractors (RAMS, PTW, SOPs)
2. Support the SSOW & Risk Assessment processes, ensuring all working activities & plant/equipment conform to statutory and regulatory requirements
3. Drive the COOK Standards & HACCP Pre-requisite for Maintenance policy; ensuring Engineering and Contractor activities comply to Food Safety practices and cGMP standards
4. Support internal and external audits with ownership of resultant actions
Continuous Improvement:
1. Implement and oversee Root Cause Analysis process for all significant breakdowns and repairs in the Kitchen and ensure results are integrated into PPM activities
2. Support development of other Professional Maintenance & Lean Methodologies
3. Identify and manage the implementation of site driven Capital project plans to improve safety, quality, efficiency & reliability, and to budget
4. Active involvement in company driven Capital projects; to provide technical knowledge / experience to work towards successful project implementation
Energy & Sustainability:
1. Understand utility usage (gas, electricity and water) and engineering waste in all forms; identify, implement & support activities towards the company commitment to the energy and sustainability agenda
Experience & Knowledge:
1. Proven experience in team and individual management/leadership and contractor relationships
2. Engineering Apprenticeship with NVQ, National Certificate and/or City & Guilds qualifications
3. Practical mechanical/electrical skills & experience within manufacturing environments – food or pharmaceutical industry (HACCP & Food Safety) is ideal
4. Experience with a wide range of equipment; food production, packaging, sealing/labelling, scales, Metal Detection, refrigeration systems, steam generation and all aspects of site services
5. A good understanding of Safe Systems of Work, with experience in regulatory compliance
6. Project management experience
7. Effective at working to processes, priorities and planning of engineering activities
8. Excellent communicator with suitable IT skills for management position
