Our client is a Care Home for Children and Young people aged between 11-18 years old with Social, Emotional, Mental Health and Complex needs. They are looking for someone who knows how to make a house, a home. They are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and determined Registered Manager for their children’s home based in Waltham Abbey. With your guidance, the team will ensure that the children living within the home have the very best care, great role models and a place to call home.
The Position
1. To be responsible for shaping and delivering the residential home’s Statement of Purpose and managing the team to achieve the same.
2. To provide high quality care services that support the needs of the residents, to be an advocate for their well-being and to provide strong, motivational leadership to staff.
3. To manage an Ofsted Registered Residential Home and ensure the efficient operation of the service in accordance with the relevant legislation, procedures, policies and the Statement of Purpose for the home.
4. Promote and actively encourage the delivery of a safe, structured and nurturing environment, promoting the young person’s independence and developing their life skills.
5. To support staff to achieve the highest standards of care for the young people.
6. To co-ordinate and monitor casework and administrative functions of the home and evaluate standards of performance.
7. To assist and supervise in the continual assessment of the needs of the children and young people and to identify and prepare specific development plans to ensure the most appropriate service provision.
8. To contribute to a comprehensive staff training and development programme to enable the home's staff to have all necessary skills and levels of expertise to meet the needs of the young people.
9. Liaise with various internal and external multi-disciplinary teams and commissioning authorities to ensure that the care needs of new and existing residents are met.
10. To chair meetings, reviews and discussions as necessary.
11. To assist in the management, appraisal, supervision and support of all residential staff.
12. To ensure that the company’s financial and administrative procedures are adhered to and to work within a set budget.
13. Ensure all clinical practices and medication processes within the home are conducted in line with legislation.
14. To work with the Team Leaders to ensure that all staff work together and with others towards meeting the emotional and physical needs of the young people and planning for positive outcomes.
15. Ensure that all necessary documentation required by regulators is completed to a high standard and is available for inspections, checks or interviews as requested.
16. To participate in a range of corporate and management activities as defined by the Senior Management Team.
The Person
1. Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Residential Management Pathway, or
2. NVQ Level 4 Leadership and Management for Care Services, or
3. NVQ Level 4 Health and Social Care (Children’s Pathway) combined with a Leadership and Management Qualification.
4. Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development.
5. A minimum of two years’ experience at senior level in a Children’s Home.
6. At least one year in a role supervising and managing staff.
7. One year’s experience as a Registered Manager within Residential Childcare.
8. Experience working with Children who have Mental Health, Emotional & Behavioral difficulties.
9. Able to work within the principles of the Children’s Act.
10. Demonstrate a sound working knowledge of Child Protection Issues and Procedures.
11. Sound knowledge of Children’s Homes procedures and relevant issues.
12. Proven leadership and management abilities.
13. Excellent communication skills – both verbally and written.
14. Ability to produce reports.
15. Working knowledge of the National Care Standards 2000, Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.
