Job Title: Systems Design Engineer – Industrial Placement Reports To: Senior Design Engineer Department: Systems Engineering About the Department: The Systems Engineering department is responsible for the installation and running of all the electrical/electronic and control systems on the race car. Within the department, the Mechanical group is responsible for the design of all bespoke assemblies and Harness routing. Role Overview: As a Systems Design Engineer – Industrial Placement post-holder, you will be at the heart of our Systems Engineering team, where you’ll play a critical role in contributing to the mechanical design and installation of the bespoke electrical boxes used on the race car. This is an opportunity to design parts which will run on Track. You will be exposed to almost all areas of the Car and will be able to work collaboratively with most of the Design Office. There is the opportunity to learn about all aspects of a Formula One car, from initial concepts to performance monitoring on track. There is potential for significant growth and involvement in most areas. Your Responsibilities: As a Systems Design Engineer Industrial Placement post-holder at Williams, you will: Interact with a wide range of car assemblies, as most components interface with our parts. Gain experience in harness routing, electrical enclosure design, and carbon bracket design. Contribute to the design of test installations for both the car and factory. Opportunity to design parts that will be used on the track. Shape Preferred Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following: Prior experience designing mechanical components with any CAD package and producing engineering drawings through work experience or personal projects. Inquisitive and creative mind. Problem solving skills. Effective communication skills. Ability to quickly learn and use new engineering tools. Currently studying Mechanical Engineering, Motorsport Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related subject at university. We do not require an extensive knowledge of Electronics, just the ability to understand key installation requirements and apply general engineering principles. What can Williams offer?
